What the fudge is the deal with mobile phones?

I'm sick of hearing people talk as if they couldn't live without them - Lets be clear Mobile phones are frivalous luxaries that make people and parents above all else lazy. They are expensive to buy and expensive to run - and that not taking into account all the stuipid extras people pay for - from pointless ringtones to games they hardly ever play.

I'm proud to say that at 24 I have only owned a mobile phone for 1 year - and truth be told I hardly ever use it and dont need it I dont want it, but when one's friends insist it be the only way to get in contact with them, I decided maintaining pride wasn't as important than keeping friends. Nevertheless it says something about my friends, people who want to use mobiles over landlines - Tech-savvy over financally savvy. It also says some about them, when in the same time Ive ownn 1 phone some have owned 3 - In 1 year!

On one side we have a massive waste of money on a piece of technology that people adopted as a new body part and on the other side is that case that this new body part is robbing people of themselves....People who lose independance, the art off conversation, people who want to run friendships and relationships by text messages, using this distance to evade facing up to things like a man should.

I can see the point in mobiles - If your in the middle of nowhere and need help, your sorted, the convieniance of people to phone and text where and when you like is useful, but its also made us lazy and is eroding the core of common decency.

If you only dare say something over the phone or (worse) in a text, what does it say about you? It says your gutless, timid and completly repugnant. Dont deal with serious issues by proxy deal with them face to face, we all know its the right thing to do and I need explain what issues Im talking about, but if your acting dumb let me make a short list. Dealing with your relationships, asking people out/Dumping people. Explaining your actions of an event that you have been blamed for, letting people down...Basically dealing with any serious situation via Txt msg or via some tacky conversation - Because you dont have the guts to face someone.

What really is pathetic howeve is parents who give thie kids mobile phones - so they keep thier eyes on thier kids. Its a pathetic excuse to be more lazy and it doesn't work. You can turn your phone off, its expensive to keep it topped up and phone, and kids lie. If you are a good parent you don't need a mobile phone - they've only been around (mass scale) for 10 years and some treat it as essential - GET OFF YOUR BACKSIDE AND PARENT! And if you give into your kid because they pressures you into it - cos everyone else has got one - Then your even more pathetic, and no amount of phones is going to change the fact that your kid is going to be a pain who will rarly show you respect.

Its annoying. Dont turn a convience into something essential, dont use technology to do something you can do alone. And dont disrespect peoples emotions by using your devices to hide from the curtosies we owe people. And for Gods sake just put the phone down and get on with your life.
