Here a a few storylines, or generic twists which I frankly dont want to see again.
"Thier my child"
Benidorm did it the most recently and Desperate Housewives and Will & Grace had a stab at it too. Is the classic storyline where 1 person thinks thier partner is having an affair, but it's turns out they been in contact with a love child.
"Thier not your your parents/ I am your father"
Eastenders, Desperate Housewive, Queer as Folk, Deep Space Nine, there are many shows or any genre that hasn't done this one...Be it a parent covering up after the death of the natural, a classic adpotion story, a reveal abduction, a sister that turns out to be thier mum or a mum that turned out to be possed by an alien who ensured you your born to filful your destiny. This one comes in many forms, but the revelatory stage is alwayspretty much the same...You weren't ever gonna top the Slater storyline in Eastenders, so this old tambourine should have been hit for the last time then.
"They've got a secret - oh they killed someone"
What show hasn't done this one? Someone either demented or troubled turns up or someone you becomes the former or the latter, and after painstaking wait, this old nugget resurfaces. The current culprit is Waterloo road, and whilst I'm sure the team will put it's own twist on this recycled turd, it's the one downside to the new series. Its not as if who dunnits have got dull, or the slow revelation format is dead an buried, it just that its pulled off far too predictably.
"The **** has issues"
I think Prisoner Cell block H takes the crown for this one and people have pitifully tried to emulate what was once very much unique to this show. Ok thats not all that true, but I fight with my dying beath PCBH made it something people really wanted to copy...Just like Willie in Ugly Betty or Multiple cahracters in any show made by Shed production...You have a true bastard, somene you love to hate, someone that appears to have no redeeming qualitites but then they crack that crust and all of a sudden you really feel sorry for them and for the rest of the show your stuck in in dilemma and wanting to hate them but feeling very sorry them. When done right it makes for great TV, But where as these other formats are a like a lasagne (many ways to make a good one.) This type of storyline is a PIMMS N0.1: If you dont get it exactly right you might as well have not bothered.
So theres a few, theres many more!
A Bandwagon bandit, is someone who jumps on just about every bandwagon that rolls by: Its someone who lacks originality, someone who steals other peoples ideas, or copies someone else ecause everyone else seems to be doing so. Its someone who is spineless, predicitable, and quite often a fashion victim - This is course the 3rd party gaming Giant Electroic Arts (EA)
Over the years EA have increasingly fallen into the habit of trying to emulate other peoples succes, by making thier own version of a successful or acclaimed game. Lets not also forget they na every movie license they can - most subsequent games turn out as abortions - mediocre at best - But do they sell YOU BET! They jump on the bandwagon everytime at the right time.
Lets not also forget thier own franchises which are recycled almost annually - be painfully dull sports games (Do we really need a new football game every year?) The always naff Need for Speed, The fastly declining SSX series, the overused SIMS franchise or once excellect Burnout running on it past reputation.
Granted in this day and age its hard not to look like a copycat, but have EA ever looked like anything else? Sega, Nintendo and Rare and I suppose even Sony and Microsoft have always managed to have an image of uniqueness and some degree of originalit, but not the gaming Giant that is EA.
I personally feel sorry for the Noobs that get sucked in by thier shiny packaging a licensed music tracks they chuck into to whatever recycled unoriginal junk they throw onto the Market. Are people unaware of how poor and pathetically plagerised EA games are? Its always annoyed meand I deeply believe they should not be a fortunate as they are, they quite simply are not that good. People really are easily impressed, and its time you woke up! Dont waste your money on EA!
So when your looking to buy a new game, dont get sucked in by a fancy packaging with babes or celebs or a game of a recent Blockbuster movie. Lokk at who makes the game and if you see the EA logo, do your self a favor and read some professional reviews. EA games seldomly get good ratings by the experts, and if you take a look to the left or right you'll probably findthe better game they got thier idea from.
So basically, avoid EA like the plague, thier are idea thiefs who make poor games.
Man! Do I want to rant about this! Doctor Who and its ungratefull viewers!
Doctor Who is one of those shows where expectations are beyond high. Much like Star Trek it has a huge group of fans most of whom think they know the show better than the next person and have an exact image in thier mind to how the shows continuation should be executed. Nothing else will do.
Well in 2005 I was a Doctor Who Noob. I heard my favorite writer Davies was at the helm with and old pop idol of mine Billie Piper, so I thought I have to give it a go and it was love at first sight.
I had no preconception to how the new series should be done, but I knew 2 things, it had to loyal to it cheesy repuation and it had to reengerise its viewer base. It did both undeniably well, its the UK's No.1 show and just about the Brits most successful export in recent years.
So whats my gripe? Well Im talking to those fans who think this show should have been made for them, adult-style, constant hard-core bullet flying super serious sci-fi. Those who think the show can be too childish or too light hearted and not enough violent. For gods sake you nutters your being taken on a journey so dont argue with the designated driver!
Of course Doctor Who's quality wobbles a bit, some ideas were duds like the 2012 episode, but very few would argue against the claim that even when doctor Who is at its poorest its still a hell of better than most shows past and present.
But just shut up if your moaning about Doctors Whos Direction. If you even have a snippet of understanding about Whos history like me then you'll know the show is being unbelievably loyal to the original in everyway. So shut up about wanting to change the show into something that it never was!
It makes me laugh, the BBC makes a show enjoyable to everyone, good wholesome family fun, that does go of on tangent now and then to satisfy even those of you who moan and dont get what you want!
Even worse is the the stupidity of fans who demand the show doesnt change - when the main message in Doctor Who is nothing stays the same! "Everything has its time and everythings dies"
Just remember those like Davies and Moffat know Doctor Who like the back of thier hand and are of course excellent writers. Thier are very few out there than can give good cause to claim they've done an unsatisfactory job with the shows regeneration, and I can assure you, that you are not one of them!
