GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

Lately(like the last 3 months or so) I've been working much less on GameSpot AU now that it has moved out of the "new" phase and focused on other new stuff @ CNET. One of those I can talk about has recently launched -- AppleSource. It's a "how to" site for Apple users. Currently it's focused on the Mac computer hardware, software, iPods, iPhones, 3rd party products and so forth. You can find it here.

One area that isn't included yet is Mac gaming. There seems to be little content around on Mac specific gaming and to be honest I haven't ever bought a game specifically for my Mac. For me Windows and consoles are where I have my games.

However, over the past few months quite a few games developers have announced their new releases will be available on the Mac platform. I'm not sure if this is because Macs are getting more popular of because it is less programming effort now that new Macs are running on Intel chips. Probably a little from column A and B.

So I guess this is an open question to other GameSpotters out there: How popular is Mac gaming and how good are games(and selection) that run natively on the Mac?

I have never had a Mac, but I have used them. The only games I have played on Macs were real childish like learn your ABC games. I prefer Windows myself there are more games for it and have a variety of them.

i still find Mac gaming a bit limited. it'll be good if they will indeed come up with more games just like what they have for PC. i'm a Mac user and i have an iMac that can run Windows - which is where i do my gaming. in that aspect the Mac hardware is pretty good. it was even able to play Oblivion better than my improved PC

I don't own a Mac but I can't deny that it getting some games is a bad thing.

It gets Wow, and the Sims games for my sister, so we're both taken care of primarily there.

I'll still pick the Windows PC over it for gaming though. Macs are good for just about everything else.

Most games I know of that are on Mac are cross platform Open Source games like Free Civ. As for Commercial games Id software always makes Linux, Windows and Mac executables though lately the non-windows ones have been downloaded instead of one disk. Im pretty sure I heard EA were bringing a bunch of games to Mac like C&C3 and Need for Speed.
Basically no game publisher cares about mac, everyfew years they release a few titles and give up. Its the same with Linux. Sad
