Yeah I know this is a video game site but I was thinking the other day about some of the great gatherings I have had with family and friends. Most of the memorable ones included some sort of board game or card game everyone could play.

Some of the games have included Cranium, Canasta (spelling), various card games, marbles (like sorry) and recently even a game of Pirate Dice !

After thinking about this for a bit I thought it might be interesting to see what some of my fellow gamers have played and liked. Are there games that you have not played that you would like to try ?

I have played other games than just the ones that are mentioned above but those are the ones that came to mind first.

Shacks I still enjoy chess but I don't think I have played Stratego ? I would like to try that one. Euchre ? I have never heard of that game. If you don't mind tell us some more about it. IpodHero my good friend Dustin is very much into playing D&D but I have yet to get a chance to play that either. From what I have heard I can be alot of fun. Maybe this summer I will get a chance to try it out.
He even bought me some dice this last Christmas so I better get a chance to give them a roll.

IpodHero176: D&D is a lot of fun, if you have a good group that gets together at least weekly.

BulletProof007: Stratego is so much fun. As for Euchre it is a 4 player card game, you only use some of the cards (9-Ace) and you play as teams of two. Each team takes two of the four 5 cards for score keeping (first to 10 wins). Now, Euchre is a lot like Spades mind you, only true difference is the trump suit changes and when it does the Jacks are the "LIttle" and the "BIg". Like if Spades is called trump then the Jack of Spades is the "Big" and the Jack of Clubs is the "Little".
There is sooooo much more to the game, so you should google it, so you can get the whole thing. LOL

Also BulletProof007 I assume you are like in your late thirtys, seeing you are married with kids and all... You haven't played D&D back when you were younger? I know it was popular enough back then.

You are right Shacks D&D was popular when I was growing up and to this day I am not sure how and why I did not play it ? I guess I did not have any close friends that were into it.

I will google Euchre. Thanks for all the good info too. I think I will put Stratego on my list to get because I think my son and I would enjoy it.

ooh, I've played a lot of chess, and won one or two inter school tournaments,

and I loved Business (its what Monopoly is called here) and also Scrabble, they are some of my favourites there are a lot more too! I had a huge collection of Board games, but gave away all to charity etc when I started getting more and more video games

Back in my younger days I played a lot of board games because video games didn't exist! Stratego was definitely one of my favorites back in the 70's. Then when I was in college in the 80's D & D was definitely THE game. Nowadays I enjoy Cranium with family and friends and also have enjoyed many different versions of Trivial Pursuit over the years.

Celtic when ever we have had a big group of people Cranium has been a fun addtion. We have played it to the point that we have certain people that do certain things because they are good at it. We usually play guys against the girls and one of the guys on our team is our hummer ! Lol
Where ever we draw a hummdinger he get the job. I almost always do the senso-sketch. If you get a chance let me know how you play it and is there any one thing that you get called to do because you are good at it ?

So many great games have already been mentioned, from Stratego to Euchre to Chess, but I'll toss a few others in here - we used to play board games all the time growing up, and I really think it started me down the path of video games:

Risk/Axis and Allies - I enjoy any strategy game that can be played with a group and last for an entire afternoon. Hero's Quest - Does anyone remember this one? It wasn't D&D, but similar. Battleship, Clue, MouseTrap, Checkers, etc. - All the old stand-bys that we never got tired of.

Sounds like I'm about the same as everyone else - started getting into the group games like Cranium and Trivial Pursuit as I got older.

Still love to bust out the board games whenever possible though!

Thanks for adding to the discussion Ohtarion. I would love to try a game or two of Axis & Allies. It looks like it would be fun.

Oh yeah, Risk was also a favorite when I was younger As for Cranium, we haven't played it enough to designate people for certain tasks, though that's certainly a good idea. It is funny to watch people get frustrated when they're trying to hum a song or pantomime something and the other person just can't figure out what it is

Some of my favorite games are Khet which uses laser beams and mirrors in a similar fasion to chess; Go which is an asian take on chess; and Polarity which is a strategy game that uses magnets.
As for card games, I like Dai Hin Min which I don't know what it's called in English; Canasta; and Pounce which is speed solitaire for up to 4 people.

Most interesting mad_tyger. I am going to have to look into some of the games you mentioned because I have never heard of them before !

Laser beams and mirrors ! that sounds like it came out of a James Bond movie or somthing.

There are no new ones that I want to try as much as old ones that I haven't played in a while. The four I speak of are: Risk, Twister, Monopoly and I think the last one is called 13 Dead End Drive or something.
