Now, we all know the Wii has been a smashing success, making use of a new motion sensing controller, challenging developers to create new games to use this new controller. Well, Nintendos controller has just stepped through the frat house door and stepped up to the table for a game of Beer Pong. What shocks me the most about this is that Nintendo is actually allowing this WiiWare game on their console. Not that I am concerned over the substance of this game, there games with worser themes out there. I think we all remember XXX. Is this game a step in a different direction for Nintendo? Nintendo focuses on Mario, Metroid and others for its gaming sucess. Simply put, their not the same as Sony and Microsoft. GTA IV didn't come out for the Wii. Nintendo does it a different way then its competitors and they are shining at it.
Well, in November "Frat Party Games" will come out for the Wii only. The last few sentences in this article ( http://wiinintendo.net/2007/08/30/wii-beer-pong/ ) say that the original name of the game " Beer Pong" has been scrapped and replaced with the name " Pong Toss" due to fears of public backlash over the game.
There has been some backlash, as expected and understood.
Many have expressed their concerns over the game according to this ABC report on the game ( http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/story?id=5333140&page=1 ). Many say that this game will have an negative influence on the children who play it. Yes, people of all ages can pick up this game because of its Teen Rating. Now, many teenagers know about the game and many have probably played it at a party or a friends house. The feeling is that this game promotes drinking and will introduce many to that same idea. I can see where those people are coming from but, I can see the other side of the issue. Young minds can be very impressionable and this game can lead them to make bad judgements. But, I think most will take this game for what it is. A video game. Could a game drive a young teen to go to a frat party and try this game, yes it could. But, if underage teens are going to drink they are going to drink no matter what. It happens every day and will continue to happen whether this game comes out or not.

kind of a weak game tho, cant see the sales being too good, but who knows
i believe that if kids are going to drink their going to drink why do we have to have a game about beer pong?
bazanger
Wouldn't that mean that everyday, children around the world step on mushrooms and hit their heads on bricks, hoping coins will come out?
in my opinion, kind of a lame idea for a game.
