As you may or may not have noticed, my attendance here at Gamespot has been a bit lacking. Such is the fate of a college student at the end of the semester! I've been crazy busy finishing up assignments and papers. But this week is finals week, and I'm not taking classes over the summer, so hopefully I'll let my presence be known more often.

There has been 1 major development in my gaming world, however: I built a new computer! My ever-aging, but always loyal P4 2.4ghz with a nvidia Geforce FX 5200 and 1gb of RAM wasn't going to cut it for much longer. So I did what any responsible adult would do: kicked that scrap to the curb and assembled...

-Intel Core2 Duo 3.0ghz

-4gb RAM (1gb x 4)

-nvidia Geforce 9600GT 512mb

-160gb SATA Hard drive

-SATA DVD burner

-550watt Power supply

-Thermaltake case

Yeeeaaaaahhhh.....

Sweet deal. Recently bought a new one myself, rebuilt my old one and gave it to a friend. I think last night was the first time I've seen you pop on TF2 in looong time.

hehe, it has definitely been a while since I played TF2. But now that I have the new rig, I plan on playing more often

Nice rig there buddy. I'm looking to get myself a laptop very soon and those are the stats I'm looking for.

Sweet. Need pics now Do you do a lot of PC Gaming? I guess I don't know a lot lot about your preferred games/platforms, that's why I ask.

Nice rig, now go play some GTA4! NOW!

Thanks Denis! I thought about going for a laptop, but I think it would have cost a lot more to get those stats in anything but a desktop.

I'll work on getting some pics up this week, Derek. And I probably should update that "About Me" section, haha! I'm not a huge PC gamer, but I'll play some of the bigger titles and the occasional MMORPG (I plan on playing Final Fantasy XI more over the summer). I love Starcraft, but I really suck at RTS, and I like First Person Shooters (Half Life 1 & 2, working on the episodes, TF2, Doom series, Unreal series, and back in the day I liked Red Faction and AvP2). I like PC RPGs quite a bit too, like Diablo II, Fallout, Neverwinter, and I just got The Witcher for my new machine. I hope that gives you a better idea of my gaming habits!

I don't have GTA4 yet, Dan.....don't hurt me!

You sound like you're kinda like me as far as gaming preferences. There are some MMORPGs that I'd love to play but I just don't have the time or patience for them. I've played a little bit of FFXI and it seemed cool, but I imagine that is a major time consuming game. I have Starcraft and I really like what I've played of it, but I feel that I also suck at RTS games. However, I love the Dune series and Command & Conquer (specifically Tiberian Sun). I seem to be better at those games than Starcraft and some of the more recent RTS games that seem extremely complicated and advanced. I also love FPS games but I prefer them on consoles. The only PC FPS game I've played all the way through is Quake 4. I love Half LIfe 2 and Episodes 1 and 2. I can't wait for Episode 3! I've never really gotten into the Unreal series and I haven't even tried Team Fortress 2 even though I have it on the 360 as part of the Orange Box. I remember playing Red Faction on the PS2. Good times. I haven't really played any PC RPGs even though I own a few. Most recently I bought Neverwinter Nights (diamond pack) but I haven't really gotten into it.

Don't worry about not having purchased GTA IV yet. I think some people forget that there are other video games to play besides GTA IV.

Our tastes do sound pretty similar, Derek! FFXI is definitely a time-consuming game, but I tend to play fairly casually anyways. I've actually never tried the Dune games or C&C series, but I tend to limit it to Starcraft because of my lack of skill, hehe. I didn't get too far into Neverwinter Nights myself, but I liked what I played of it. I considered getting the Orange Box for 360 when it came out, but opted for the PC version to be able to play TF2 with some friends. That is one thing FFXI has done right: cross-platform multiplayer!

I've always been a console gamer myself. My first system was the NES in the mid 80s and we (my family) didn't get a PC until the mid 90s (with Windows 3.1!). The first PC game I played on that computer was Dune II. Since then I've always enjoyed the RTS genre on PC, but I rarely play any PC games nowadays. I played a bit of FFXI when my friend had a free trial and I liked what I played but I just don't have the amount of free time that I used to in order to really get into a MMORPG. I hear there is some sort of special anniversary edition coming out for the 360. If they got rid of the monthly fee, I'd consider checking that out.

Hm, I didn't know about that anniversary edition, I'll have to check it out. The good 'ole NES really made me into a gamer, but it was actually my family's second system after the Atari 2600. I can't remember the year my dad got our first computer (1996?), but it was a Packard Bell with Windows 95, haha! One of the first PC games I remember getting into on it was called "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream." We had no idea what it was, but I think it was really cheap so my dad picked it up. It was one of those classic "point and click" adventures. Good stuff!

Yeah I saw a news story on Kotaku (or maybe it was Joystiq) about a FFXI anniversary edition. Not sure when it comes out or what is included though.

When I was a kid (and before we got an NES) I'd go over to my cousin's house and play games on his Atari 2600. Those were some of the first video games I'd ever play. Defender, Joust, Pitfall, Pac-Man, etc. Good times. The first PC my family got was given to us by a friend of the family. It wasn't a store bought one, but one that was put together with spare parts, basically. We had it for 5 years or so and then got an HP in the late 90s with Windows ME on it (ugh, I hate ME). I stil have that computer in my apartment but I rarely use it.

Never heard of that game. Sounds pretty crazy lol
