MovieTome Done For?

I didn't really think it was going to get worse but it did. I haven't checked the forums on MovieTome for about a week and I checked them today. There were about 3 new posts?! At the bottom of the screen I'm looking at the Coming Soon section and its listing movies that are out in theaters right now?! There haven't been any posts in the Breaking News Section which was the consolation from them after saying submissions were 'temporarily' not allowed. There have been know messages of any kind from anyone associated with the site. In fact, there haven't been much of any messages from anyone?!

My Theory

I honestly just think they're letting MovieTome die out so no one really minds when they shut it down eventually. - Just making sure they don't lose any membership from connected sites. I could be wrong I guess. It just doesn't seem like they're making any effort at all anymore...

i used to use it when it was filmspot, then it became movietome- now i cant be bothered, it never was as interactive as tv.com! the most you can do is review or submit news pieces... as long as tv.com never goes under i'll be happy

I used to go on there a little, but you're right, it's completely dead. I'm a forum nut and there's little to zero conversation on there so I don't bother any longer.

It was always like this.

Same here, I don't go there much anymore. When I want to search for some movie information, Movie tome is not my favorite place.
Posted Jun 10, 2008 10:27 am PT
It looks as if it is the weakest link of the sites
Posted Jun 10, 2008 10:36 am PT
yeah now one cares about it

I use TV.com. It's always up and popping. Honestly, I've never used MovieToMe.
Posted Jun 10, 2008 11:00 am PT
Wow - no one uses it anymore do they?!

Was it really always this dead? I guess I didn't realize that.

No, it wasn't always like this. It used to be a busy place with a lot of excitement--that was when we could make submissions and improve the guides. I used to have to split my time up between TV.com and FilmSpot.

That's too bad. I'd love it if they allowed submissions again. I just really doubt thats in the cards any time soon...

I don't really spend a lot of time there. If I want to see information about movies I usually go to IMDB.
Posted Jun 10, 2008 1:47 pm PT
That`s messed up! I thought Movie Tome was kool! I enjoyed it!
Posted Jun 10, 2008 1:58 pm PT
There's no reason for a serious movie fan to go there right now. Most of the movie guides are only partially complete, full of inaccuracies, and we can't do anything about it. I think it had the potential to be just as good as IMDB, so I don't really understand why it was just swept under the rug and left to die a slow death.

It must still be good for some old information, if that's what someone wants.
Posted Jun 11, 2008 2:37 am PT
Alright - I'm done whining, again. I'll shut up!
Posted Jun 11, 2008 6:33 am PT
i cant even track my movie list properly on movietome
Posted Jun 11, 2008 11:15 pm PT
I used to use it, but as some people have said it is not as user friendly as tv.com, and at the moment i prefer to watch tv shows anyway so i have not been on for ages, i dont use mp3.com at all anymore think i have logged into that a total of 5 times, it is a boring site.

As long as they don't close down tv.com i will be happy, as i have been contributing alot lately and would hate to see it go to waste, but tv.com is always alive and kicking!

I personally liked the site when they were updating things, but this is getting ridiculous now. I hope they don't get rid of the site, I was enjoying it. I used to go on tv.com, but with summer here, I'm more into movies

That site rocks and it's a shame that more effort isn't put into it.
I've relegated myself to writing reviews.
Posted Jun 12, 2008 11:31 pm PT
Yeah - thats pretty much what I'm down to as well. I'll always enjoy that part of it though. Plus - the ability to find movies other people are into.

I really don't go to MovieTome. I always use IMDb for any questions and trailers.
Posted Jun 13, 2008 8:23 pm PT
movietome is a good website, unfortunetly not many people know about it
Posted Jun 16, 2008 11:49 am PT
I know it's been mentioned a few times in this thread already, but I'll just hammer the point home. IMDB is the defacto movie site just as TV.com is the authority for television. By making Movie Tome, CNET came out with the movie-site version of the Zune.
