It's that time of year again for me today, a day that strikes us all annually. For me, it's the 15th anniversary of my 39th birthday.....lol. If it were up to me, the day would go by like any other day. No fanfare, no special mentions. But, last summer I got married, and now I must face the "it's your birthday!" ritual from Bear. It starts with an onslaught of electronic birthday cards (starting the day before), the first-thing-in-the-morning singing of "Happy birthday to you", then the gift(s), and of course, the 54 whacks on the hienie. And that's all before 10am no less. Supposedly, I get anything I want today for being a birthday boy. That leaves the door wide-open for all kinds of possibilities. I know this for sure: my first birthday with Bear will be like no other...starting with my birthday cake, which is pumpkin pie. You gotta know Bear to understand this. As for me, I'd just as soon be an "old poop" and treat the day like any other. I have never been able to figure out why I should celebrate being another year older. The aches and pains seemed a little achier this morning (already). I guess I can look at the bright side and say at least I made it this far....lol. So, this year, I'll stop being an "old poop" on my birthday, and I'll enjoy the day with Bear and all the surprises the day will bring. I guess getting older isn't quite as bad when you can share it with someone you love. That alone is worth having a "Happy Birthday!".
