As I'm sure many of you people know, Realiy TV is probably one of the most ridiculed TV genres out there. Well, I feel that since this is my blog (Where my opinion is all-knowing and all-powerful) I would present to you, my faithful blog viewers, my opinion on the sensation that is Reality TV.

Reality TV is basically divided into three categories: Dating, Competitive and Non-Competitive. I happen to find all dating reality shows stupid. I for one do not believe that true love can be found in a castle with cameras everywhere and 9 other people competing for the heart of some man or woman. I think it doesn't happen because anyone is going to get caught up in the "romance" of the entire thing. Most couples don't get to meet in a castle, wearing gowns and tuxedos, so when the show is over, it's probably hard to adjust to going to the guy's apartment while he eats beans out of a can and laughs at his own farts, when just a few months ago he was taking you boating down a river in a gondola. The one exception I've found is The Flavor of Love, sure it's cheesy and stupid, but I just find it hilarious at how trashy these people are. When a catfight breaks out within the first 5 minutes, I'm going to be watching. I don't know about the rest of you people, but I find trashy people extremely entertaining.

And now we go into the Competitive reality show category. I happen to find many of these shows entertaining, but somewhat shallow. I mean, on Survivor, sometimes the editing manipulations can be noted and help detract from the "reality" of the show. And reality shows rarely show us anything positive about the human race (Except for maybe the Amazing Race, showcasing teams of two coming together or falling apart during a worldwide race). It pretty much shows how low people would be willing to sink in order to get the million dollar check grasped firmly in their clutches. The two shows that I feel transcend this (And happen to be my two favorite reality shows) were Project Runway and Top Chef. These shows present people of fiery passion for creativity, with the winner not being determined by who lies the best, but by who can better express themselves given the challenge placed upon them. It's refreshing to see people who are so different, so wild, and so passionate about the same thing,

Well, I don't really see enough Non-Competitive reality shows to judge them, so that's the end of my little blog post on Reality TV. Feel free to post your comments!

Unfortunately, I can't really say I can genuinely agree with anything you've said since I've flat out NEVER seen a single scrap of Reality TV. I might have to give a few of the shows you pointed out as being entertaining a try though.

I agree with you about the dating shows, especially when the contestant likes to humiliate the other person. Sometimes on MTV's Next I'd "next" myself.

Oh, I love Next, it's so cheesy and stupid. I know it's corny, but that's why I love it.

Well, I don't really like reality TV that much either. I think TV should be a nice escape from the harsh realities.
