Is anyone else scared that it just won't work on the psp?
I
know the creators love to be experimental and challenge themselves
creatively by giving themselves obstacles to overcome, limitations to
be challenged and pushing the boundaries of common gaming.
This i like but I have a foreboding of the new installment.
In
the interview there was mention of the auditory (?) properties of
silent hill, Akira Yamaoka's work is stunning and I always listen to
the soundtracks (especially sh2) but why circumvent the prospective
atmosphere and feel of the game by limited acoustics or audio
properties by using the PSP? surely he's giving himself a hugely
limited soundscape in which to work? I myself cant really comment on
the PSPs audio capabilities as I refuse to play it until SH0 comes out
but surely for a game of Silent Hill's intensity, scale and audio
tangability the PSP cant hold a candle to a console?
And also
the size of the screen is annoying me. Here i'll make an analogy with
the cinema. Im sure you will all agree that watching a movie in the
cinema is far better than watching it at home. The sound has far more
impact, the screen size allows for better engagement and its all round
a far better experience.
So compare that to watching a UMD. The
sound is weak and the screen is small. Perhaps an unfair analogy as
one doesnt' play games in the cinema(?): but surely ones appreciation
and impact the game can have on the player would be greatly improved by
better audio and a larger screen?
I really don't want another SH4-esq disappointment.
I'm
sure that all the strengths almost synonymous with the Silent Hill
franchise i.e haunting, disturbing and unnerving audio, un-settling,
claustraphobic and terrirfyingly hideous visuals along with enigmatic
and deeply harrowing plot will be diluted by the PSP

You'd have to tell me!
I always play these kind of games in complete darkness with headphones anyway! adds the the effect.
You have quelled my anguish slightly

I for one am really excited about SHO even if it is on PSP, it'll be a good game on it's own, it's not supposed to be compared to the console versions.

PSP audio is just as good (with headphones) as the PS2, so you don't have to worry about yamaoka-san's amazing soundtrack being limited in any way. Also, if you think about it, you'll realize the screen is just about the same size as a TV's considering you hold the PSP about a foot away while playing. Plus it's widescreen, which is nice.
Just my two cents. I'm really looking forward to this game too!

Mechakucha, i actually agree with you on that one. it could be awesome. i heard in edge magazine something about internal conflict with the company making or releasing the game, i do hope not.

I think by the time the next silent hill installment comes out the ps3 will be much cheaper! It can't stay that price for long.
There will be loads of good games i think for the system after about a year or so on the market so maybe pick one up next xmas time.

Silent Hill Origins was the first Silent Hill Game I ever played, believe it of not... That soundtrack was too damn scary, what´s with all that industrial noise in the nightmare dimension!? Anyway, It was really good, well I don´t have any point of reference, but I was satisfied... I can only compare it to the really good Resident Evil games for the PS one...
