So one thing I forgot about is Tom Cavanagh. Love him as JD's brother Dan on Scrubs.. I've been watching the ABC Family original movies SNOW and Snow 2 Brain Freeze every night to fall asleep since I know them pretty well by now. Nick Snowden, aka Santa Claus -- with amnesia, its a hoot! I started watching the NBC series Ed, I'm up to the Christmas episode of the first of four seasons.. I love Warren Cheswick (Justin Long) almost as much as Ed Stevens - both hopeless goofy romantics.
There's a holiday original marathon on ABC Family today, from 8am to midnight.. I haven't seen them all but they're on the DVR list
My favorite is Three Days, the guy's wife dies and he realizes he didn't appreciate her enough and he gets 3 days to live over with her again, but the deal is she'll still die.. or will she?? It sounds sad but its actually very heartwarming! The one on now, Picking Up and Dropping off (?) has Scott Wolf (Party of Five) and as it turns out, Rachelle LeFevre, aka Victoria from the first two installments of the Twilight saga..
I thought this movie on Lifetime was a christmas film cause of the tree and the party but its all like an abusive guy and another battered woman.. I feel duped. Still, its Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), hmm. Lack of holiday cheer will compel me to turn it off soon enough. Ah, Scrubs on comedy central.. perfect!
Ok, so its been forever, and I still say no one reads this thing but me.. but I felt like writing something down. So.. New Moon just came out. I became enamored with Twilight last September, blew through the books, obsessively checked the fansites for updates and saw the film 35+ times in the theater. I went to the midnight showing of New Moon and it brought me to tears just like the book. I thought it was as faithful as possible to the material, and Taylor actually made me like Jacob Black, which I didn't originally til Breaking Dawn. I saw NM two days in a row and can't wait to go back - it was a far better film than the original, and since the script writer remains the same you can only attribute that to the directors in question. Maybe I'll get more in depth about a review later..
So while watching a special on vampires, I saw some spoof musical called I Kissed a Vampire.. so I had to check it out, especially after I found out it had Lucas Grabeel of HSM fame. Its so cheesy, but so catchy.. not HSM3 caliber, but still fun. I got into the HSM movies this summer as well, I'm all about Sharpay and Ryan, haha. Dr Horrible is clearly the creme de la creme of web musicals but the sequel isn't out yet.
More in the musical vein of things, I'm such a GLEEK! Every week I put together a CD of my favorite songs, and as new ones come out its like sophie's choice deleting old favorites.. So many numbers from Acafellas sacrificed in the name of Finn's I'll Stand By You and Shue's Don't Stand So Close to Me / Young Girl mash up.. I could talk for hours about Glee..
The only other new show I'm watching is Vampire Diaries.. I mean I'm a Dawson's girl and Kevin Williamson is perfect for this, plus the source material is from my favorite author, LJ Smith. Loving bad boy Damon, he adds the humor and the edge. I never read Vampire Diaries, but I was obsessed with the Forbidden Game Trilogy.. ah, Julian. Well before there was an Edward Cullen..
Speaking of Cullens, how cool is it that Alice ranked #9 over Damon??
Anywho, concerts.. saw Depeche Mode twice again this year!! Same for Stone Temple Pilots
Saw AFI for the first time, made me miss Blaqk Audio but they should be touring shortly.. as will STP with a new album!!! Can't wait for Good Charlotte's Cardiology and a new tour after they cancelled my show. Sigh. At the recent Hit the Lights show I got into the band Sparks the Rescue, love the songs Autumn and Hello Mexico.. Also saw.. Cobra Starship, Metro Station, Incubus, Taking Back Sunday, and Toad the Wet Sprocket
And OWL CITY! I'm sure I'm forgetting some at the moment..
New CD: Plastiscines, About Love - heard them on Gossip Girl! If Serena and Nate finally get together I'm just going to burst!! New old CD: The Pipettes - heard these gals on Grey's Anatomy.. Both groups remind me of Le Tigre and the whole take on the Go-Go's / B52's / Blondie girl rock throw back to the 50's! Speaking of Grey's so sad for Alex, bad Izzie. Its weird having Meredith more or less whole and healed. I like Drea de Matteo on Desperate Housewives.. and grudgingly enjoy the new character Clay on One Tree Hill though I'm still not totally sure about Quinn. Millie just needs to go away. And Dan and Rachel? Ew. Glee ships? Puck & Quinn, Finn & Kurt, uh kidding - Finn & Rachel I suppose.. Back to CW, Dan & Vanessa should finally have whiny judgy Brooklyn love..
The new Tinker Bell Lost Treasure was phenomenal. I dislike CGI for cartoons in general but everything captured the right mood and in vivid colors.. Blaze is awesome, and glad to see more Terrence. Never enough Silvermist
Cant wait for the sequels!!
I think there may have been more, but short of my recent Cold Case addiction which has given way to my early indulgence of Christmas specials (whoo! ABCFamily!) I can't think of anything more.. Perhaps some sleep is in order..
Yeah, since when have I ever stayed on topic..
So I DID re-watch The OC beginning to end, enjoying every moment of Seth & Ryan time! The first season is the best but I love them all for different reasons.. I love Zach and the many lighter moments in season 2.. Mallpisode! and the whole Johnny/Volchok thing in season 3.. even Frank/Julie etc in season 4.. The french plot was sort of stupid but not as bad as trying to focus on Kaitlyn in highschool. Season 4 could have been much better and I wish they'd had more episodes in the final chapter. After wrapping up with gag reels and such I checked out Autumn Reeser in Lost Boys: The Tribe - which was nothing like the cult classic, but certainly entertaining for its poor script and acting
Apparently she'll be in a new CW sunday show, Valentine about gods?? I'll give it a shot but it sounds like it will get the axe even if its good.
Current full series re-viewing.. Dawson's Creek
Oh, the drama! Did I ever mention I've been in love with Joshua Jackson since Mighty Ducks?? So yeah, I'm a sucker for Pacey
I'm only on the 2nd episode, but I'm sure the next blog will be Creek-centric..
Watched plenty of indie flick comedies this year. Off the top of my head I liked Bickford Schmeckler's Cool Ideas, Charlie Bartlett and Wriscutters: A Love Story the most.. Most big screen and rental movies are a blur since I see so many - and lately I've been more into my music / concerts..
I did the Bamboozle (mostly for Jacks Mannequin) and Warped tour.. This year I got to see Stone Temple Pilots and Foo Fighters for the first time, and they both rocked. The STP show in Atlantic City was AMAZING, especially because I was front and center and Scott was in top form! My most recent concert experience was Good Charlotte - twice in one week
I saw them on the Soundtrack of your Summer tour with Metro Station, but they only got to play 11 songs.. Even though many of them were personal favorites I needed to see them headline. Luckily for me even though their solo tour was over prior to SoYS (I caught that tour in Atlantic City earlier this year) they added ONE date this weekend to play a hometown show and visit their families before returning to CA.. So I drove from Philly to Baltimore for the club show! The energy intense and I was about 4 people deep from the stage on Benji's side so I had a pretty good view most of the night. I won't get into the few rude people that were a bit of a distraction.. I think you find those types at most live shows unfortunately. Even though I liked the AC set better because they played Victims of Love and The World is Black.. it was something else being so close to them, especially when Benji played acoustic for Emotionless.. I hope they tour again soon - I never get tired of seeing them play ![]()
There's a free show this weekend for Candlebox / Local H / Carolina Liar / Desoto Jones.. The next BIG act I'm seeing is Weezer - I'm not hardcore or anything but I really liked their first few albums in high school so it will be cool to see them live as long as they do some of the old material! The night before that I may head to Hoboken to check out Kris Roe of the Ataris play an acoustic set of Blue Skies Broken Hearts Next 12 Exits. Ataris are cutting a new album and touring next year so I'll finally get to see them. Still waiting on news for the November tour for the Smashing Pumpkins 20th Anniversary.. and if STP will add a Philly/NYC date before this tour is over.
I'm debating traveling on a Wed night to go see Cake in North NJ since there's no dates in Philly and they seem like they'd be fun live. I might even go to Hackensack in late October to see Just Surrender w/ White Tie Affair at School of Rock.. hopefully JS will play more from the new album this time! I really liked Farewell the last time I saw them live, but I doubt that I'm going to blow off the TWO HOUR FALL PREMIERE of GREYS ANATOMY!! Maybe they'll schedule another date close by. As it stands I'm debating whether or not I'm going to delay viewing the Oct 9th episode to see Cobra Starship/Forever the Sickest Kids since Hit The Lights is opening for them and I'd love to see Nick sing again, though nothing will beat the intimacy of being a few feet from him in a small church basement show! In November I'll likely be seeing Metro Station for the 3rd time this year and Every Avenue for the 4th.. just a fun live show, you know? That's also when the RockBand tour rolls through with Panic At The Disco, Dashboard Confessional, Plain White T's and The Cab.. I hear Panic! puts on a good show but really I want to hear Chris Carraba sing live ![]()
So Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill return next monday, just in time for my birthday!!
Season 5 of OTH comes out on DVD today! I know it wasn't the strongest season but there were definitely some great episodes last year. I have to decide whether or not to tape the Sept 22nd episodes and go to see EMPIRE RECORDS on the big screen.. Its my favorite movie and I never got to see it in the theater. At the same time, Movie Mondays at Troc are more like watching Rocky Horror - its fairly interactive and loud. If they're fellow EMPIRE fans though it could be a good time.. Its not exactly Sophie's choice or whatever - I just don't want to miss OTH and then people are rude etc during my #1 film.. but this is probably the last time I'll have a chance to see it in a theater. Choices..
Words of wisdom from Lucas (Rory Cochrane):
"I am guided by a force much greater than luck."
"In this life there are nothing but possibilities."
"What's with today, today?"
"Always play with their minds.."
"Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear."
