Why CNet!? Why!? Jeff was your ace in the hole. He was THE man! He would host your little shows like the HotSpot, On The Spot, and other things like The Players Ball. This is how you treat your own? Lock them out of their office and get some suit to tell them they're fired? Ok maybe I don't know the whole story but to fire Jeff like that you'd better have a good f**king reason to do so. If the rumors are true than that is a very lame reason to fire someone. But I guess it's money first, people last. After more than 10 f**king years you just throw him out. Well I was going to sign up here but F**K that you don't deserve my money. I recommend that everyone who reads this (which will be probably no one) get a pop-up blocker whenever you go to any CNet site, and if you've subscribed, cancel it! We need to boycott CNet and tell them that we like honest opinion, and if they want to force their reviewers to give crap games a good rating because they will make more money from the ads. Well then they can just go to hell. It would be different if Jeff left on good terms, like Greg, Rich, Carrie, and Bob before him. But the fact that Jeff was fired crosses the line. Heres a man that dedicated a good chunk of his life to GameSpot and this is the thanks he gets!? Thats just f**ked up...

NOTE: Pardon my language if it offended you, but I'm really unhappy about this whole thing...

I agree that he was the man. Now there is no man, but a bunch of wusses...

That is just sick! I didn't even know about this until i saw your blog. How could they do this? Jeff was THE reason i watched On The Spot and stuff like that and i always had a good laugh with his reviews, now he is just gone, just like that? This is completely unfair...

Blind, my mate, firing Jeff isn't GameSpot's biggest problem. As far as I know Jeff is the one who supported or even decided that GS dumbed down its review system (if so I would personally fire him instantly that day if I could). Other thing is that GS is not about users anymore, its about money and the big money. Jeff as well as majority of editorial staff is guilty of low and controversial reviews.

For me GS was dying slowly with its reviews and died on the day when supported by Jeff changes to review system for users came.

I'm not sure if Jeff actually supported it. I mean if I worked for GameSpot I would promote every little thing they change/do because they're my employer and I like money. But to fire someone over a negative review for money. Thats just plain wrong.

Yes, he did support this decision and I complained a lot about it in his blog about how great new 0,5 system is (not only me). This was a major step away from the community, cause we were the one that suffered the most (user made reviews) if he didn't realize that it was his time to go. Old more descriptive and enhanced way of user game reviews encouraged many pretty good (some much better and more accurate than GS) reviews. Dumbing it down could only bring more good for the promotion of over-advertised and shallow games. That was the time when the counterbalance for low quality GS reviews was removed. Since then GS could easily promote this or that game by its poor reviews and Jeff was if not the father (as his response was quoted as the one to shut us up) the first one to promote those changes.

I miss Greg, I liked Jeff, but his unhealthy lean towards arcade games and strange reviews made me realize that he is not a reliable reviewer. Maybe those years at GS just made him feel too all-knowing and powerful?

Yeah I miss Greg too. He was my favorite and always will be. Maybe it's just because Greg left on good terms and it was his decision. For Jeff after 10 years he was locked out of his office with his stuff outside on the ground and asked to leave the premises. Something about how they treated the termination of Jeff's tenure rubbed me the wrong way.
