...hopefully.

Just realised this is my 50th blog I have just finished my second year of uni and I am glad that it is over. People have said to me that the second year is the hardest and I couldn't agree more (at this stage anyway). I am looking forward to third year but that can wait for now. I have got four and a half months of relaxing to do first. Hopefully I have passed this year with some decent marks. I missed all my exams in January due to illness so I have to do them in August. I filled some form in and shown a doctors note so I will be able to get over 40% on the exams, as opposed to a 40% cap on re-sits. I have to plan my dissertation this summer and do all my interviews, literature reviews, research and what ever else needs to be done. I'll still have to go in to uni once or twice a week to use the library and see my personal tutor.

For my dissertation I have to build a program or database with a front end web site. I have decided to base mine on the club I work in. The database will be used for stock, staff rotas, holidays and what ever is needed. The web site will be used to advertise the club and allows users to upload photos of events that happen in the club. There is always some charity event or party going on. Yesterday (17th May) there was a football presentation with guest presenter Chris Kirkland. So there is a few photos that can go up. Next Friday is a charity darts thing with World Champion Dennis Priestly. There is always something going on that can go up on the web site if we choose to host it. If we don't I will still be able to use it as my dissertation.

As well as that I have a friends wedding to go to in August. It is in Wilmslow, which is a mission away. We are staying in the hotel over night so it's not too bad. Its a nice hotel as well. Far too up-market for the likes of me

Has anyone got anything fun planned for summer?

Nice one. I love finishing for the summer. I think second year is the top of the hill for uni, it's probably the hardest to get through it, but once you are in third and fourth year, you are just sailing down. That isn't to say that third year wasn't tough for me, though, it was a hell of a lot more work than second year, I was just more prepared for it.

I think because first year was quite relaxed it didn't prepare me for all the work in the second year. Now I know what's expected from me I think I'll be better prepared in the third year.

Do you do four years? My degree is only 3. I might do a PGCE or Masters so it would be four with that.

Yeah, I'm doing a 4 year honours course, and if I do a Masters it will be another year on top of that.

Good idea for the dissertation. I can't imagine how complicated that would be. ECDL grade Access is where my database skills start and end. Users being able to upload pictures is a neat idea as well. It sort of plugs into the whole Facebook thing.

I am going to New York for a week this summer as I am going to be 30! Holiday good, 30 bad....

adamt2828 - I will enjoy it. Pity I wont have much money though.

Chirodip_08 - I have read your blog and commented. Its always good to see another Liverpool fan.

-INKling- - Its going to be hard work. I dont know what Ive got myself in to here. Im going to have to learn PHP for the web site and MySQL for the database. I'd like to go to New York one day. My brother went just before Christmas and said it was amazing.

Much congrats! Sorry to hear illness disrupted your January exams, all the best in August. Agreed on the 2nd year's difficulty, big step from the first. We had to do a dissertation proposal this year as part of 'research skills' which was a nightmare; luckily there's a choice on our course to do either a dissertation in year 3 or take extra modules, so I've gone with the latter. The motivation and research required for a dissertation is something I probably couldn't muster for next year.
