I am tired of seeing forum threads fill up with posts like..
"I am not the thing you called me. Here's a long-winded, totally unprovable list of reasons that you'll have to take on my word. P.S. I'm very, very honest with all of you; I totally swear this is true."
or
"I'm correct because of this list of my mildly related accolades or laughably distant relationship to someone remotely involved."
A word to the damaged: thrashing while under the microscope is the first sign that you're guilty. Flailing while defending your honour only reveals to the accuser that you are trying overly hard to defend a position. Self-assured individuals do not need to carry on, sputtering about why they are right - especially over something as irrelevant as fanboy status.
It's doubly as annoying to see people make posts like these when they aren't the targets of the original attacks. When unsure as to whether or not you're under attack: DO NOT RESPOND. You set yourself up for the inevitable reading of your post in which you'll undoubtedly have fingered yourself as lacking any sense of conviction.
It's painful to have to read through the masses of these posts and to realize that Gamespot is populated solely by the insecure.
On a final note, nobody cares that you're remotely related to Joe Soap, the brother of Bob Soap, owner of the two-bit game developer Soapsters Inc. Neither do they care that you're an A+ high-school student with high moral fibre or a volunteer at the local soup kitchen. Keep it to yourself. The most convincing proofs for anything you say are provable source and the ability (requiring honing) not to sound like a total idiot.
