I just called MS customer support and found out why Microsoft are avoiding me. Due to Norway proudly refusing to join the United Nations (boo!), requesting repairs online do not take effect. The nice Swedish lady on the phone fixed it, and it seems Norway is a bit luckier than the others. FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE. Oh snap. Norway has a two-year guarantee on all electronics, which the RRoD guarantee is added upon. WITH FREE DELIVERY WITHOUT HAVING TO FIND YOUR OWN BOX OR ANYTHING. Double-trouble-snap.
There was one thing though. You might have noticed that I'm online sometimes. That's because it works on some occasions. At first it was rare, but it's been working more commonly. Still, the problem is there, but I was worried that the repair people would fire it up and come to the conclusion that I was a liar. The Swede told me they thoroughly checked it by taking out the motherboard and testing it, so hopefully it all works out.
Within five days, a nice delivery-man will show up on my doorstep with a box. I'll gently drop the 360 in his box, and he'll be on his way to the infernal flames where RRoD'd 360s go to burn for their sins. Skip two-three weeks forward in time, and I'll have a new 360. All's good.
Back in the summer of 2007, my 360 got the red rings of death. Now it seems as history has repeated itself. Keep in mind that the console I got in '07 was in fact manufactured in 2006... Hopefully my new one will be one of those fancy post-'06 consoles I've been hearing about.
I registered my console on Xbox.com. It said that my console's warranty had expired in February, but it also said that I bought it in 2006, which is wrong. I explained that in my description. I don't think it matters, as Xbox.com points out that having the red rings extends your warranty to three years after purchase. Whatever, even if I do have to shell out some money I will gladly pay. I love that damn console!
To cope with this pain, I made this video;
I went out and bought Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway today.
I'm a big fan of World War II games, and this one delivers. The cutscenes are beautifully choreographed and written, the gore and action cameras bring a lot of fun to the game, and the gameplay is what you can expect from a Brothers in Arms game. The gameplay hasn't evolved a lot since the previous Brothers in Arms, the faces of the characters simply don't look or move next-gen and there are technical issues here and there, but it's still an excellent tactical shooter. I'm loving the off-line experience, but haven't bothered with the online yet. I don't think playing with random people is much fun, so feel free to invite me if you own the game on the 360!
