First off, I don't blog. I hate the word 'blog' and I don't plan on doing this regularly. Sadly though, I did think that having a place to write about what I thought of some of the new shows this season might be something fun to try. Hopefully I'll have better luck this year with pilots than the last few (Jack & Bobby, Invasion, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Nine).

Journeyman: Though it has the Quantum Leap premise of traveling through time to correct mistakes, it stays rooted in the present with Dan (the traveler) having a family and his jumping putting extra pressure on an already strained marriage. The pilot had a nice emotional ending and an interesting "twist" in regards to what his purpose for the jump was. This series has potential as long as it manages to keep itself fresh and not become repetitive. Grade: B+

Reaper: A funny series about a guy who becomes the Devil's bounty hunter. It has a nice blend of comedy mixed with some action. Sam (the bounty hunter) and his friend Sock work well with each other and the Devil [Ray Wise] is fun to watch. While the premise seems simple and fairly formulaic, it is funny enough to keepme watching for a while. Grade: B

Pushing Daisies: A quirky, Tim Burton-esque series about death and life, though mostly death. Ned is able to revive the dead (for only a minute without consequences) and this "cursed gift" allows him to make money on the side solving murders. The fact that he brings the girl he loved/loves back to life and keeps her this way will be interesting to watch their relationship develop. Also, since from the pilot, the murders don't typically take much to get solved, I'm thinking that maybe the focus of the show will be based upon Chuck's (Ned's revived dead love) question of "any message to deliver or anything they can do" for those they left behind. Grade: A-

Bionic Woman: After an accident, a woman is given new bionic limbs that increase her speed, strength and other abilities. Being that this series is developed by one of the producers of Battlestar Galactica, I decided to give it a chance. It offers a fairly simple premise along the lines of Alias though with more of a "superpowers" angle. I think this series shows promise if it can develop characters that we want to spend time with, strong action sequences, and an involving plot to bring everything together. Grade: B

Private Practice: Though I was not happy with the decision to spin-off Addison from Grey's Anatomy, I liked her character enough to give this a shot. It is a very different show than GA though. Most of the characters are "adults" compared to the interns of GA. Sadly, the plots of this first episode, and also the "back-door pilot" 'The Other Side of This Life,' didn't really grab me. I don't really care about anyone other than Addison yet and the medical plot of the first episode was nothing special either. I will give it a little time to find itself though. (After seeing the next episode, 'In Which Sam Receives an Unexpected Visitor' as well, it was a great improvement and gives me hope.) Grade: B-

My top picks out of what I've seen are Journeyman and Pushing Daisies and I hope they manage to find their audiences, not that I really need any more shows to watch...
