Ah, another day, another installment to meandering  rants.  But before that.....

I won Student of the Year in my School!! Really wasn't expecting it, was so happy - I couldn't believe it!!  Not even the most annoying person in my Year could spoil it for me (apparently, she thought it should have gone to someone else  - everybody else told her to shut the hell up and clap! ).  So, that night I felt totally justified in watching TV instead of studying.

Anyway, part 2 (SGA Season 3 spoiler ahead):

  • The Real World:  Okay, this was the Weir centric eppy.  I like the character of Weir in S1 and in S2, meh....she was kind of annoying - "oh, no Caldwell's here" or "noone respects my authority".  And I missed the Weir of S1 and here we kind of got the old Weir back - fiesty, intelligent and observant.  Here she came into her own - but she could only do that on her own because her character just wasn't strong enough to stand up with the other leads.  One thing I will say here is that Higginson is a fantastic actress.  Some people didn't think that she acted consistantly for an alleged crazy person - ever seen a crazy person?  Trust me they go through the exact swings as what Higginson portrayed.  All in all, good character ep - just a pity that she never gets to act like this more often and develop as such. 9/10
  • Common Ground: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Ahem, now that that's over, I loved this Shep ep it was like Weir's ep totally psychological.  Man, Kolya's just the best damn villain EVER!! Davi just has him so well portrayed.  And the whole concept of this wraith as a brother to Shep is just and .  Unbelievable.  Fantastic story line and just the acting on Flanigan's part was really well done - and all of the other actors really played their role well when they were watching Sheppard being drained, noone went OTT and Beckett's, McKay's and Weir's reaction were perfect. 10/10 (just better than the Weir ep because of that just brilliant, brilliant plot point that, especially since it was a reset, actually made sense).
  • McKay and Mrs. Miller:  Erm, at the risk at sounding like a repetitive fan girl, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeesh, first Common Ground and now this? As a self proclaimed Hewlett fan girl, I was always gonna love this episode.  I loved the whole earth and ship based part with Jeannie and Madison.  The writers actually did manage to properly portray a sibling relationship - combative but yet loving.  And Rod! Though, like everyone else, I didn't like that Cafeteria scene (was it just me, or were the team's laughter kinda fake?).  The button bit, the one with McKay ranting in Shep's quarters and the Terminator pose. That final scene with the hug, just, awwwww.  Man the character eps were just this season.....10/10 Yet again!

Anyhoo, gotta go - now I actually do have to study.....

My brain hurts.  Really, it does.  I just spent my bank holiday weekend studying and I've got a suspicious feeling that nada went in.

Absolutely nothing.

Exams are a pain in the ass.  Especially Biology and Accounting exams (that're only 4 WEEKS away!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Anyway, SGA Season 3 - My Opinion (erm, spoilers for anyone who stumbles onto this blog by accident - I'm guessing that's how my hits count went up)

  • No Man's Land/Misbegotten:I'll be honest, I hated this whole plot concept from Season 2.  You mean to tell me that some of the greatest minds in 2 galaxies would actually be stupid enough to do a deal with the wraith, much less a semi-wraith whose life they ruined?  Come on!!! There were some good moments and the pairing of Rodney and Ronon was genius as well as John's one liners.  The conclusion was much better than the opening.  6/10
  • Irresistable:I know opinion is REALLY divided on this.  I liked it up to a certain point and then it became grating - it was SGA's attempt at something similar to SG1's "Window of Opportunity" or even "Urgo".  I liked the whole concept of the team just fawning over Lucuis and John having to kidnap Carson but didn't like the end with Rodney using the herb.  However, I think SGA is too much darker than SG1 to really pull an episode like this off. 7.5/10
  • Sateda: *faints* This was the episode that made me watch S3 religiously and not wait for the repeat on Sky 2.  I was practically drooling at the end.  All teenage fantasies aside (Half naked Jason Momoa,), I loved how they got the balance just right between humour (an arrow in the ass with a drugged out Rodney!) and real juicy storyline with Ronon going back to his homeworld - SQUEE!!!! 10/10
  • Progeny: I watched SG1 when my sister got them on DVD and sure I liked it and watched most of the episodes.  People say that this is a rip off of SG1's replicator storyline and I say who cares.  I don't know the ins and outs of that storyline, I care about this one and that's why I like SGA - SGA has its own take on aspects of the Satrgate Universe and I liked this one.  The Niam actor was gold and I liked the sheer creepiness of Oberoth.  I liked the fact that morals aren't clear cut in SGA and sometimes the best of intentions just don't cut it.  Good, solid intro to the new baddies. 8/10

OK, must go to sleep now.  My brain is fried and demands sleep. SLEEP............. Will do part 2 of my rant tomorrow.  I'm thinking of getting some sort of blog account.  This is actually cathartic, noone I know will read it (and it doesn't matter if noone doesn't read it), it's way quicker that writing and I can talk about TV without getting ridiculed for watching SCI-FI.

Oh, who cares.  I'm going to sleep.

Okay, I had my French Oral today.  For any non Irish person who happens to stumble on to this blog (hah!), my French exam is made up of 3 pieces - a written and comprehending exam, a listening piece and actually speaking to an Examiner a month before the exam in June to prove your level of proficiency in the language.  It's worth 25% for me. This is because I'm doing honours level (which, you know would be ok if I wasn't doing ALL 7 honours subjects - there's only 2 other people as stupid as me doing this in my year!!!)

Anyway, the Examiner I had was.....erm.....not nice.  I mean, seriously, what sane person asks you "What would you do if you were Minister for the Envrioment"?  IN FRENCH??!!  Anyway, that was the only real thing that I wasn't happy with.  But she asked me about my favourite TV programme - naturally I said Stargate Atlantis.  Told her my 6/8 sentences on Stargate Atlantis and how it was a Sci-Fi programme.  Which then lead onto whether or not I like Science - which was good because I was able to direct the conversation towards school.  I was the only person to direct her towards it out of the 50 people that do French!  Only like 12 got asked it directly (which p*issed off our teacher because it's meant to be a definite question).  I was sooooo relieved .......... until she asked me about the enviroment....

Anyway, I will return soon to start on my opinions on SGA Season 3 (I rewatched them all last weekend while recovering from my Irish Oral)

Some people just don't have opinions. Like Barkwater.
Barkwater must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could Barkwater possibly have for not rating a single film?
