GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

If you've looked at some of the main websites and have seen reviews lately, you'll see a couple of things.

First, very rarely does a game get a 6 or under
Second, the more a game is hyped, the better the review is.

As an example lets use Resistance 2 for Playstation 3.  If this game wasn't hyped so much, I HIGHLY doubt this game would've gotten about a 8.0.  If you've played it, you've noticed that multiplayer wise they took out a lot of great feature and substituted them for some online features.

More notabley, the game on SPLIT Screen absolutely SUCKS.  There is no more campaign mode, the graphics suck, the levels are designed for 5 - 50 people for difficulty and with no compaign mode, there is no story or accomplisment to beating each level.  L A M E.

But somehow IGN gave it a 9.5, Gamespot gave it a 9.0 and Tomsgames.com has yet to give it's review.

I think reviewers are missing the concept that just because they like something, doesnt mean everyone else does.  You can't blame them, they are in the gaming industry and if they love online gaming with people from work who share the same passion, they are going to have a different view of the game then people who play games once in a while and hardly go online.

But the job of a reviewer is to review based on the casual gamer, not the hard core gamer.  Since casual gamers are more likely to visit big name sites such as IGN and Gamespot.net (which is owned by CNET, if I remember correctly, which is owned by CBS, which is owned by Viacomm).

If any reviewers read this, please keep in mind, that video games have a different appeal to everyone and you need to think about that before giving a final score.  If there is a reviewer that would possibly PM to explain HOW IN GAWDS name, Resistance had such a good score, that would be great.   Did you overlook the fact that split screen is useless simply because the game supports 60 people online?

I understand what you are saying, but I don't really agree with you at all. In order for a review to be meaningful, the reviewer has to say what he/she thinks personally. Reviewers need to be unbiased to all outside influence in order to construct their own review of the game. If they went around reviewing games based on what the community thought, then every single gaming site would have the same exact review for a game.

The sad thing, is that gamespot USED to address this issue by breaking down scores to include reviewer bias. Now we just get rounded scores with "goods" and "bads". That was the end of Gamespot as truly reliable source... it's all about metascoring now sadly.

Don't complain about other reviewers when you cannot review yourself (MGS4 a 1.0 out of 10? Come on...) Don't be an ignorant fanboy troll.

This is why game sales are dropping. With a $60 price tag ... people are thinking three or four times before they buy games so they don't end up with something like this.

I'm my opinion, decent game reviews can be bought, just like anything else in the world. Just check the reviews for games on sites that aren't as popular as this one, then compare.

Bloated reviews seems to be a norm for this site ... I've stopped trusting them. I treat them as fiction now ... some are quite entertaining.

Wow. Resistance 2's multiplayer is actually quite good. Very well made. And you can't sit there and say the graphics suck, they arent the best, but they arent awful. So what about Halo 3? Gears of War 2? Those games were heavily hyped, but by looking at your profile and your rating on such games (MGS4 a 1, even if you arent a fan, its at least a 9) you probably think that those games are revolutionary.

Reviewers don't have to write reviews based on the people, they write them based on what they think of the game. They don't have to consider anyone, they give there honest opinion and thats it.

Again, MGS4 wasn't a crappy game. It was just another Metal Gear Solid. There was nothing revolutionary in that game and I didn't enjoy watching most of the CGI scenes. I'd rather play the game.

I agree that with my 1.0 rating, it looks like I am a massive fanboy. Especially when I give Forza Motorsports 1 a 10. Looking over my reviews, I would probably move Chaos Theory to a 8.5 and MGS4 to a 4 possibly a 5. but I gave those reviews at the time and I gave them that for a reason. Taking it back and changing it would defy the whole purpose of the review. I remember I was massively pissed off with MSG4 came out, because it was just another MGS. Nothing special other then a pretty interface...but I don't rate games on graphics unless they deserve merit. Even so, it would only effect the score by 1 or 2 pts total (out of 10).

Oh Lawl, what a sad story, MGS4 a 1.0? You didnt even play it! You only own an XboX! You are rating on what you heard of the game having lots of cutscenes and you thought, "Well, I don't like cutscenes..." Well whatever, be a hypocrite somewhere else and stop talking to my autolycus, it's getting annoying.
