Konami, Square-Enix, Bungie, Capcom, oh the light goes on, and on. Trust me, I tried to find all the video game developers and companies, all that stuff. Enough to go around the table a few times, I might say. Though, one company seems to be standing out, at least in my mind. Capcom, dear old Capcom, how my memories with you, stained my mind, almost as well as the blood of zombies in Resident Evil, stained the ground. I can safely say, Capcom, that every developer, company, what have you, had an interesting affect on me in my life time. Square, gave me Final Fantasy, which made me turn into a kid, who spent most of his time day dreaming. Konami, you gave me Metal Gear, which made me debate if I should break some guys neck, or stick to the shadows. Westwood, you gave me incredible RTS games, rest in peace. Though, don't worry, Capcom, you were the first to scare the crap out of me.
It all began one day, in 1997, when I got my first PlayStation with Final Fantasy 7. I was just re-entering games, and, well I am old enough now, naturally, back then, I was not so brave. I went to Block Busters, to rent a game for my new PS1. I wanted something, that grabbed my attention, to, give me a new gaming experience. I enjoyed FF7, for sure, but I just wanted to experience this, new generation of 3D. So, what did I rent? Resident Evil, ah, the game that took my young mind for a ride. Sure, now days, Resident Evil is seen as action, heck, I see it as action, but when I was young oh boy, it scared me to death.
Go ahead, laugh at me I won't care, but when you're young and you see a zombie break someones neck, munching away, then turns to look at the screen. Well, haha, let's just say I never got passed the part with the dogs jumping through the window. Of course, I rented it when I got a bit older and beat the game easily, and oddly, most likely because of the past experience, Resident Evil is one of my favourite game series. When I get into my Resident Evil mood, stand back. I once beat RE1 for PS1, then the Saturn version, then the remake, then RE2, then RE3, then RE3 again on PC, then Code Veronica, one after another in a week, and too also add, when I log into Windows XP, I am greeted by the voice, RESIDENT EVIL, ripped right out of my RE disc for Saturn.
Ah, but I could go on, and on, and on about Capcom, but what I wanted to bring to peoples attention, if they haven't already noticed. Is how daring Capcom is being at the moment. They have a lot of big titles coming out, but oddly, some of the biggest ones are not the new games they are making, but the old ones they are reviving. 1942, and Bionic Commando? Oh heck yes, I will take some of that, and anymore classics Capcom remakes. I don't understand why gaming companies are trying to reach this, magical land of gaming. When truthfully, sometimes, all it takes is some mindless fun, with no actual storyline plot, and sub-par graphics.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed, is great. I keep playing it, beating it, then playing it again. The music is funky, the graphics, well not breath taking, are just perfect. The writing, ah, haha, I have laughed quite a few times at what some of the characters are saying. That is what a real game is, not saying that, Metal Gear Solid 4, or, Gears of War, are not games. Oh, they are, they are awesome games, but games don't always have to make you think, or try too hard, or try to force you into a world that you have to believe, in order to accept it.
If anything, Capcom is spear heading an assault, into our minds, and our pasts. They are trying a lot of new, daring, gaming styles. No, not talking about Resident Evil 4, or the upcoming 5. Although, they did revive that series in a way, for better or for worse. Personally, I preferred the old RE games, but that is just my opinion. I still loved RE4, for what ever that is worth. Though seriously, more gaming companies should stop trying to hike into the land of the unknown, and go back down from that huge mountain, to the world they have already been to. To take a break, to let their minds cool down.
What about a Metal Gear remake, much like Bionic Commando? Same camera view, just 3D. I would love that, possibly move then Metal Gear Solid 4. Add an on-line co-op, and I would basically be licking Konami's feet, well, not really.
