Ahh I don't follow the news as much as I perhaps should, especially movies, but this story did caught my attention...

May the fires of mount doom find you quickly (to the director) if you don't cast Ian Mckellen again as Gandalf the Grey!

What? Everyone can do short blogs and I can't?????

Thoughts?

You tell em' man. I actually wouldn't mind a Hobbit movie, and yeah I'd hope to see Mckellen as Gandalf. As long as they don't us Gilbert Godfrey to do the voice of Smog the dragon, I'm game. Laters.

My thoughts are as follows:

1. You are absolutely, completely, totally and in all other ways utterly correct that Ian Mckellen should be Gandalf.

2. I still absolutely love your choice of avatar. 3. After how long it has been since you threw down a blog I was a LITTLE disappointed with the brevity of this one. Throw me a fricken' bone here!

"As long as they don't us Gilbert Godfrey to do the voice of Smog the dragon" @jim: well now, I was thinking about doing one regarding Bionic Commando, but then I scrapped the idea and began working (in my mind) about that nice Best of 2007 badge...

But they already have a Hobbit movie! Haven't you seen it? Leonard Nimoy played Gandalf.
Posted Jan 30, 2008 12:29 am PT
Well. Problem will be with Bilbo. Sir Ian Holm is too old. And who will be a director? Peter Jackson again? And the dragon's name is Smaug.
Posted Jan 30, 2008 1:04 am PT
Apparently Sam Raimi and Guillermo del Toro are vying for director. I don't need to say which one I want to win...
Posted Jan 30, 2008 1:35 am PT
The Hobbit is even closer to my heart than LOTR. It was the first high fantasy book I've read.
Posted Jan 30, 2008 2:22 am PT
By the fires of Un'Dun! YOU SHALL CAST ME!!!!
Posted Jan 30, 2008 3:34 am PT
To me, it just looks like they're trying to milk the LotR movies for as much as they're worth. I read the Hobbit book, and I was not impressed.

Who is making short blogs *carries the big gun* I liked the LOTR movies ...and bought the special edition of The Hobbit book for my wife for her b-day last year ...movie? This is the first info
Posted Jan 30, 2008 9:18 am PT
@thasod: Of course I saw the original movie, I was a small kid at the time, but was inmensely impressed by the story, in fact you should also remember the animated movie about LOTR, in which the cartoons were VERY lifelike. Still I would love to see the Hobbit movie, and since I have to contradict Monoco in everything I would love to see del Toro at the helm... On the plus side, with del Toro directing, Ron Perlman could get a role playing a goblin or something

@RebelMac: Yeah I know what you mean, Bilbo should be played by a much younger actor. Apparently Peter Jackson will only be producing the film, since he got into an argument regarding the profits of the LOTR trilogy...

@Cloud: The Hobbit would seem like a very dull story nowadays, but back in the day it was an amazing book! Plus it is were it all began!

@Monoco: .... well you know I can't support someone who directed that awful movie with the likewise actor Bruce Campbell, but stupidity set aside, it could work.

@Diablobasher: hmmm you could make a nice hobbit extra!
Posted Jan 30, 2008 9:46 am PT
I'm so perfect for the role of a hobbit that i'm too lazy to even audition, and getting to the audition would be too much of an adventure anyway, let alone climbing mountains and missing second breakfast!
Posted Jan 30, 2008 9:59 am PT
if it has a good budget then it would be a great release
Posted Jan 30, 2008 10:48 am PT
Oh, you suck...
Posted Jan 30, 2008 11:27 am PT
".movie? This is the first info" Yup it's in the works it appears, IF it Gandalf is played by Sir Ian, then I'm all for it, of course because of my admiration of the british actor's achievements...
Posted Jan 30, 2008 5:22 pm PT
"Oh, you suck..." now now olde chap, nuthin' but love from here to you!
Posted Jan 30, 2008 5:25 pm PT
I am completely lost on this subject and have not a clue as to what it is about.
Posted Jan 30, 2008 7:00 pm PT
A hobbit movie? Hopefully it won't center around the love affair of two hobbits... oops, politically incorrect comment!
Posted Jan 30, 2008 7:59 pm PT
Yes, I saw the original animated LOTR movie- of course, it was totally 70's and rather psychadelic. My favorite part was the Orc's work song, which I had stuck in my head for years...
Anyway, anyone interested in the new Hobbit movie is advised to watch the old one in the meantime, I found it quite exciting when I was a kid. And the book as well, I actually found it moved along faster, was more action-packed than the LOTR trilogy, which had too much exposition at some points (the old woman with the 'King's leaf' anyone?).

@ SYdogg:

Perhaps something like this?

Monoco, uhmm did you do some soul searching while you were away, or did you just search the web?

@Sandpiper: Uhmm what do you think about the hobbit movie?

@'Dogg: Well if you are implying that Monoco and I are hobbits that you wish to see in action, let me dissapoint you that our relationship is nothing like that. And that when I meant that there's "nuthin but love from here to you" I was refering to "guy love" not gay love". Still, pox on you for corrupting such a wonderful acomplishment that is The Hobbit with your blasphemous words... @ThaSod: What do you mean the woman with the King's leaf? Do you mean the woman that appears in the extended edition that is at the hospital were Eowyn is taken and healed with Kingsfoil?
Posted Jan 31, 2008 10:47 am PT
I guess my secret is out. I've indeed spent the last month or so searching the web for erotic Hobbit memorabilia.
Posted Jan 31, 2008 10:57 am PT
@monoco: so you were doing both! Now this is getting disturbing. So lets change the subject. Have you played The Hobbit game? It was somewhat good for my taste...
Posted Jan 31, 2008 12:27 pm PT
Nope. I recall thinking about it, but for some reason I never got around to it. Besides, I'm not that big on LOTR.
Posted Jan 31, 2008 5:37 pm PT
I don't know what a hobbit is... sorry!
Posted Jan 31, 2008 7:18 pm PT
"I don't know what a hobbit is... sorry! " OMG Sandpiper, you can't be serious? Are you?
Posted Jan 31, 2008 7:23 pm PT
Actually yes I am. Is it a type of bird or a new car or what? I have never heard this term before. Sorry for being new to it!
Posted Jan 31, 2008 8:33 pm PT
@Arcadius:

You sick sick sicko! I was making a joke about the "relationship" between Sam and Frodo... now you're the one corrupting thoughts

@Monco:

The link's broken man.

@Sandpiper:

I guess you never saw the Lord of the Rings... I don't know a definition of hobbit other than, "smallish human with big hairy feet and a tendency to show way too much affection for people of the same gender"...
Posted Feb 1, 2008 8:57 am PT
"way too much affection for people of the same gender" It was meant to be a fairy tale man! And when it was written not many homosexuals where out of the closet! So actually kissing another man in the mouth was the only way to tell if someone was gay not by showing affection!

@Sandpiper: A hobbit is a fictional character from J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit stories. They are actually what D&D Halfling race is based on. And actually they ARE Halflings. Little people, not Dwarves or Gnomes, who have rough features. They are like "Small children to your eyes"
Posted Feb 1, 2008 10:49 am PT
The link works fine, you just have to make sure you're "painting" it all the way to the end as the link extends beyond what you can see.
Posted Feb 1, 2008 11:13 am PT
Yeah, the link works just fine 'Dogg but why on earth would you follow a link posted by Monoco AFTER he has just warned you about it's gay content. That just beats me...
Posted Feb 1, 2008 11:35 am PT
OK, it does work.... and now I kind of wish it didn't! Nah, seriously, that was hilarious!

And Arcadius, you followed the link too after the warning...
Posted Feb 1, 2008 12:55 pm PT
Oh...right.
Posted Feb 1, 2008 7:29 pm PT
Actually I did see the Lord Of the Rings... but I don't remember a Hobbit in it. I remember the Wizard and the kid who had that ring everybody wanted. I personally loved Legolas the Archer the best. Was the kid with the ring a Hobbit?
Posted Feb 2, 2008 7:01 am PT
uhmmm yes. Frodo, Sam, and all the colorful people at the village in the beginning of LOTR are hobbits. In fact the word hobbit is uttered throughout the movie! Perhaps when Legolas makes his entrance to the council of Elrond is that you lost yourself in the movie?
Posted Feb 3, 2008 12:06 pm PT
I hate the writers strike it has messed up so much stuff. I think the Hobbit is the best in series I just wish they woulda come out with it when the others came out.
Posted Feb 5, 2008 4:54 pm PT
Well...The Hobbit story is a bit childish, so the people with the bucks would wanta bigger audience going for the PG13 classification, though you can perfectly PG13 a movie adaptation for The Hobbit, especially with the final battle of the 5 armies. Also I hope they show were Glamdring and Sting come from. If Peter Jackson is to produce this, who's to care if either Del Toro or the other guy directs this film.
Posted Feb 5, 2008 9:44 pm PT
Actually I was so over whelmed by the movie that I just couldn't absorb it all. I had a very difficult time remembering who was who and what they were doing and all. Thank you for the clarification. It was a pretty good movie but I don't really feel it has alot of replay value if I was to purchase it.

I would probably rate it about a 7 or so because it was so huge and a person like me who knew nothing about anything with the story before hand can get lost easily. Maybe for people who read the books it was a much better story.
Posted Feb 5, 2008 10:13 pm PT
Well, like most movies taken from books, they varied a lot of content for "action and climatic" value, but still they are a great adaptaion from the original work.
Posted Feb 6, 2008 12:42 am PT
I'll agree that any 3 hour movie can be very overwhelming (especially when each movie is only 1/3 of the story), but personally, even with zero LOTR background, I was never lost in the movies. I think they did a remarkable job of keeping things interesting every second.
Posted Feb 6, 2008 8:24 pm PT
Boy oh boy, they are talking about 2 Hobbit movies. Well not 2 movies about the hobbit per se, but 2 prequels of LOTR, in which case they could bring back a few of the olde characters!

Guillermo del Toro seems to be the choice for directing...
Posted Feb 7, 2008 7:00 pm PT
Yes, sorry I took so long to reply, I meant the Kingsfoil. That old hag just went on and on. There was quite a bit of that going on in 'The Fellowship of the Ring' as well.
My favorite has always been 'the Two Towers' since that one has the most action.
