It's another anniversary of 9/11. It still feels recent to me.

CBC showed the Canadian movie Diverted this evening. It was the first time I'd seen it. This was a wonderful programming choice; I know the movie is fictional, but it is based on real events that should be remembered as an example of tragedy bringing out the best in people. On the afternoon of 9/11, I was on the phone with my mother and she told me about all the planes being diverted to Newfoundland. She predicted that the passengers would be pleasantly surprised at how hospitable and friendly the Newfoundlanders were. She was right.

On the subject of 9/11, I had just watched a show on....wait for it....9/11 conspiracy theories. Why do people insist on believing such outlandish nonsense when an army of specialists and engineers had already spelled out in minute detail exactly what happened that day and how the physics of it worked?
