So I bought Brain Age at Toys R Us on Wednesday morning.  It's fun in an odd way...who knew doing speed math could be fun?  Anyway, in Training mode, you start out with 4 games - Calculations x20, Calculations x100 (where you just solve simple addition, subtraction and multiplication problems in a list as fast as you can), Readin Aloud (where you read a passage from a book as fast as you can...oh, but w/o voice regconition, you use the honor system) and Low to High (a list of numbers pops up briefly, then you have to tap where they were from lowest to highest).  These are all fun despite how lame they sound.  Since I've played for 3 days, I unlocked 2 more games, and there are a few more that can be unlocked.

Next is the Brain Age section.  You get 3 random games which determines your brain age.  So far as I've noticed, I haven't gotten any of the games in training besides the Calculations x20, so I was caught off guard w/ at least one new game each time I tested my brain age.  The first time I tested my brain age....I got a 69!  Yes, tired old brain....I'm pretty bad at this....I blame this on the stupid Connect Maze - it's just a big old mess, it takes me forever to find the letters....anyway, yesterday I got a 46 and today I got a 42.  Better, but still pretty far from my age...Also, I keep forgetting that I should say Blu instead of Bah-lew in the Stroop Test....

And finally there's the Sudoku, which is really well done!  You get to write little numbers (9...one for each number) to narrow it down, or just one giant number if you know what the number is.  It really is a lot better than playing it on paper.  It recognizes what you write, if it confuses the 3 or 5, you can tap it again and it'll switch.  It shows your time and adds a time penalty for each wrong answer (up to 5).  The demo handed out 20 minute penalties, I don't know if that's the case here since I've since changed it to not giving you your mistakes right away to avoid the penalty.  The only thing I wished it had was a list of numbers so that I could cross out the number once I've found all 9 of a number.

The game has 4 save slots, my nephew started one (lol, his age was 80 then 36.  He's pretty upset about it   But he likes it a lot.  You can compare your results in the graph section.  I'm better at most of the training games, he's better at most of the brain age games (like the dreaded connect maze, lol)

Oh and it seems random, but sometimes the game asks you to draw stuff, then you compare it to the game's pictures.  Mine come out really funny (It asked me to draw a hippo!!!), but my Koala came out reallllly cute.  I wish I would have taken a picture so you could all see my mediocre drawing talents...  So yeah, it's fun all around!  I think I like the Brain Training series!

Speaking of training, these are hilarious!  I especially like the Animal Crossing one, you have to admit, the game is materialistic... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94776

So while at Toys R Us, I picked up a little reserve card for New Super Mario Bros.  I'm really looking forward to that game a lot.  I think I'll pop in Yoshi's Island for GBA in anticipation of it

Last but not least, there are rumors of a NiGHTS into Dreams remake coming to the Rev....I would be one deliriously happy girl if that were true.  Seriously, they didn't want to make another game, but this would be perfect, they could just bring it on over as is, with as little or as much change as they'd like!  And you can even hold the Revmote like a cute little paper airplane....wouldn't that be cute?!?

Yeah, and with that I'll go to bed with crossed fingers and happy dreams!  Good nite everyone!

Well, I was going to buy Brain Age but Mother 3 has been taking up all my sweet time. Maybe I'll get it in Toronto, it looks awesome.

lol those box art mock ups are hilarious!

I've never heard of NiGHTS but it sounds interesting indeed...

Blech - I started off at 51, went down to 38, went back up to 47, then took it down to 31 and finally 28 where it currently stands. Word memorization really kills me. I bet today I shoot up to 60.

Brain Age is really fun I'm at 25 right now.!!

I *heart* NiGHTS into Dreams. Although, in my opinion, that would make a greater DS title than a Revolution title.

sounds tough

Ah yes, when I first started I had an age of 48, then it dropped down to like 23, then to 20 (yay!), then back to like 28, and now it's at 29. You know about the "hold down select thing" right? I'm best at connect maze, number cruncher, and calculations x 20. You know what's a fun Training game? Head count. Oh! And I also LOVE the works that they've chosen to do the 'reading aloud" from. Overall I'm liek the game quite a bit, even if I can pretty much only play the part it wa sintended for like half an hour max (can't wait until I unlock the other three games!). Yeah, love the sudoku! Alas, I've never played NiGHTS into Dreams nor even heard about it untril recently, but the main character did a cameo in Sonic Adventure for the DC (as soon as I saw the box art, I recognized the character instantly).

You should tell XBOX_MASTER to get a DS. If he likes Brain Age and NINTENDO.

Heh heh. It's fun reading about your adventures in Brain Training land. The game does sound really fun. I definitely want to get it sometime. It's hard though cause there's so many games I want. But I really do want a game that takes full advantage of the DS' abilities, and I think Brain Age would be a good candidate. It's also not a traditional game, so that's cool and interesting and I think it in a way gives the game more value than a traditional game that you can "finish". Anyhoo, sounds fun. Talk to you later.

Wow Shane, you have mother? Can you read it?!?

Sounds like you guys go up and down too! It's kinda weird, but it doesn't frustrate me. My age went down to 36 yesterday, and up to 40 today. *sigh* My sister started a file too! I was laughing at her pictures in the exhibition! On a side note, I got her addicted to catch mode in Tetris DS....she played for like 2 hours yesterday!

Head count is hard homegirl!!! I did get 3 right today...I was so proud!!!

And yeah Astro, you use the touch screen for everything you do, so it's a good DS game that way

hmmm... i want to get this game, but I'm probably going to have just enough money for either this, or new super mario brothers.... and I dont know what to get...

I fear my Brain Age ! Lol I saw the game at my nearby Target store this weekend and I too will have a tuff time picking between a couple of games I have been looking at. Drill Dozer looks like it might be fun and Lost Magic is coming very soon so yeah the Nintendo handhelds rule IMO so many great games to choose from. And I still do not have Tetris yet.

The key is to NOT play it right before you go to sleep after a long day's work. That's what shot me back up to 53. Right now I'm sitting at my own age, 24. I'm sure that number will go up today because I'll probably mess up somewhere along the way.

remmbermytitans, get New Super Mario Bros. While Brain Age is good, NSMB will be absolutely superb!

Yeah, a new New Super Mario Bros video came out today. It looks really good. I preordered it, so I agree w/ homegirl. Even though Brain Age is great, you should wait for NSMB.

Lol Mr. Chupon, I did that the day I got 46! Today I got down to 32, my lowest, but it's still 9 years off!

Oh, Bulletproof, have you been to Best Buy? You can download a demo of Brain Age and see if you like it. (Tetris too) It could make your decision easier
