Right... I just had to get up onto my soap box and get this off my chest and out into the open.
Violence in video games doesn't kill people. It never has and it never will. What kills people is the impressionable people that play violent video games.
I've played every Grand Theft Auto. Has the experience made me want to go out, hijack a car, grab the nearest hooker, bang her and then shoot her to get the money back off her as she gets out the car.... no.
I've played Saints Row. Has the experience made me want to go around gang banging people on the street... no.
See I could go on like this right... but the point I'm getting to is its not the violent content in games that needs screening... its the people PLAYING the games that need screening. Obviously if you put Grand Theft Auto into the hands of impressionable kids its a guarentee that they are going to get ideas out of it and try to emulate it in real life, usually with dire consiquenses.
I've never been tempted to emulate anything I've seen in a game in real life. Sure there are people I've met I've thought to myself, God wheres a gun when you need one... but then I'd spend the rest of my life rotting away in jail cell.
So in closing here right... Let game companies have free reign just like the movie business does and rate games accordingly. Don't force game designers to tone things down and cater to having to ship with a certain rating and make sure that people selling games are asking for appropriate ID when selling mature games.
I'm sick of hearing that violent games kill people. Its not the games folks... its the crazy people who play them.
