So now that we've fully entered Next Gen gaming, I'm ready to go. I got my large Screen HDTV, and a PS3. I went all out and got EVERYTHING under the sun. HDMI cables for everything, digital optical cable for all components, tower speakers and a new amplifier, four PS3 controllers, keyboard and mouse for PS3, new coffee table to make everything comfortable, and Playstation Eye to communicate with Next Gen friends.
So now everything looks and sounds great and, I can play online with barely any lag. So why the hell am I barely seeing any quality games out there? Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, and a small library of sports games (except Madden 08 which SUCKED) Have all impressed me with what my system is capable of and for that I'm excited, but seriously is that all? I'm frequently going to stores and saying, "There's nothing I don't own that's worth my money here." That NEVER happened with the PS2!!! I used to go broke at my weekly visits to my local Gamestop with a bag full of games to check out and enjoy. Now, I just leave empty handed. Not only that, but I look at their "Coming Soon" section and don't even see anything exciting on the horizon.
"So", I tell myself "Maybe it's just difficult for developers to get something out now. Maybe, the good stuff is about to come and just not yet" But, that's when I read an article here in Gamespot that developers are joining in the trend of low production cost for games and leaning towards arcade-style gameplay.
Did someone lose their FREAKING MIND?!?! You say you're leaning towards arcade-style gameplay immediately after the fall of arcades? Who the hell made THAT executive decision? At a time where consoles are more expensive to manufacture and difficult to afford by the average gamer. You look to skimp out on YOU'RE production costs? Games cost us $10 more and YOU want to save money? People lost interest in arcades and YOU decide that we should buy it anyway? Ladies and gentlemen!!! I announce to you the greatest drought in gaming since Atari's fall till Nintendo's rise!!!
