This is a prime example of a bad movie. It's the kind of movie you should watch only to put things into perspective. After you've watched it, you'll think about the movies you like, and you'll come to love them even more. This is an abomination of movie history. The acting is just horrible across the board, and I'm thankful every time some loud noise (such as a chainsaw) covers up the lines the "actors" speak. I'm seriously embarrassed this movie was made. It also doesn't help that the original Troll movie was actually kinda good. The reason I give this movie a full star and not a half is because it has one of the best lines to ever to grace movies. I can't explain it, but it's like the delivery of the line is so bad, that it just turns awesome. It starts of with "They're eating her". You'll understand when you see it.

The setting and atmosphere is amazing, and it holds up even to this day. It also has some very memorable scenes, and the acting and chemistry between the actors feel very natural and their performances are very believable. Sadly it also feels like the movie doesn't really play out any psychological scares (being trapped in a space ship with a monster on board should be enough you would think) but instead resort to cheap scares like many other horror movies such as the "oh, it was just the cat"-cliche... I guess what I'm saying is this movie didn't need to resort to such and would be much better without them. My biggest gripe with the movie is that I knew exactly what was going to happen, and foresee the twists and turns. But I'm not sure I can blame the movie for that because I don't know if this is in the nature of the movie, or because I saw the other movies in the series prior to this one. I heard very good things about this movie so I saved it for last: and that might have been a mistake. I was originally going to give this movie a 3, but when I take into considderation that this is the first movie, not the 5th or however many we're up to now, I pretty much have to recommend this movie. You should totally check it out - and if you do, try not to spoil it by watching the other movies first.

Another in the line of contemporary zombie movies showing that this genre is still alive and kicking. So what does this one bring to the table that we haven't seen before? To understand this I must first touch on the acting. The acting is stable across the board, and the characters are all very believable. What makes them so believable lies in the relationships between the characters, which are shown very well through clever use of comedic and romantic elements. Now, horror and comedy rarely mix well but I must say this movie was most enjoyable - and I'm proud to say it's right up there with Army of Darkness and Dawn of the Dead in terms of quality, because it's good - not only as as a horror comedy, but also as a must-see zombie movie. Check it out, even if you're not in to zombies.

Many will disagree, but a voice of reason needs to be heard in this sea of hate. Only one opinion has been expressed so far across the board regarding this movie. I went to see this movie with very low expectations (hearing it was one of the worst movies ever made before I saw it) and I must agree that at first I complained about how it didn't follow the game story line perfectly and spent my time nitpicking - but after a while I just let my guard down and watched the movie for what it was - not what it should or could be. It came to the point where I was actually looking forward to coming scenes because I wanted to see what stuff from the game they would keep or alter. The base story line from the game remains the same: Max Payne has a wife and kids, someone kills them, and he's out for revenge. I've already stated I won't base my review on the fact that it doesn't follow the game storyline perfectly. Nor will I base it upon the use of fake snow that some people have touched on - but just for the record the snow does set up the atmosphere very well in giving the movie an underlying, unimplied tone of "ragnarok". What I will point out however is that my only real gripe with the movie was that it seemed too "friendly". I would have wanted a more gritty feel to it - for example, the drugs are not being injected but consumed though a vial - this gives the movie a very "clean" feel, and this doesn't really fit with the overall setting. The acting is also lacking in some places which brings it down. Storyline elements are explained in non excessive detail, and the ragnarok-like atmosphere combined with some kind of "kafka"-feeling this quest for revenge was an overall enjoyable experience.

The scriptwriter must have had some kind of compulsive behaviour to explain everything that's happening in perfect detail through dialogue. That aside, it is a decent monster movie with long epic battles and lots of destruction. Sadly though the battles, while epic, are plagued with this feeling of never really playing out in a satisfactory way to warrant those long fights. All in all it's the perfect monster movie to watch with one of those friends who keep asking you what's going on while you're watching a movie together.

Diary of the Dead is George Romeros take on the recent horrormentary style horror (in likes of The Last Broadcast, Blair Witch Project) which follows a group of film students during a zombie outbreak. What should be noted is that it feels strange to see Romero use things like the new "actors are aware of horror movie cliches"-cliche and things of that nature in his movie. But some things remain the same at least - because like his other zombie movies it very much reflects the age it's made in. This one obviously focuses on the power (and/or the lack of) which the internet holds. Like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead his movies always seem to have some, possibly unintentional, underlying social satire in them. They can always make you think about who the real zombies are. Is it the military following orders? Shoppers and consumers? In this one the social satire seems to lie in the constant blogging, the need for page views and spreading the truth through the internet. As such, this movie probably won't get the recognition it deserves right now, but in 30 years or so I think people might just look back and say "you know what, this was actually a really good zombie movie". That said, the movie also has some quite memorable death scenes and if you're a fan of zombie movies, you might want to check it out for them alone.
