Eurovision 2009

Unlike last year when I watched it by my self (boring - recorded it cos I was out on the night it was on) this year was fun. Eurovision has always been one of those shows (like the X factor) that is a group watching activity, that way you get to make your own comments and have a bit of a laugh, even drinking games depending on who your with. This year I watched it with My Dad and two brothers and I have to admit I was impressed by quite a bit of the entries. Nothing truly bad popped up till the 7th song with a guy singing a rubbish song while jumping off a platform that also incoporated a treadmill. That said platform also at the end turned into a giant stapler (well not quite but that's what I thought it loked like anyway). I have to say that I always go for the songs that have a sense of fun to them. Norway who won had that (even though I wsn't amazingly keen on the thing) but also I enjoyed the Ukraine for the madness of a High energy pop song that had an introduction that sounded like it was ripped from Flight of the Conchords, and Turkey who's song was Eurovision with a catchy phrase 'Heart goes Dim tek tek' or something.

Countries that should have got nil points included for me Malta (awful strained ballad), Russia (atrocious rich girl sings while her picture ages on the screen behind her) and Spain (what were they thinking).

The star of the show though was the interval act which had people swimming around on top of perspex sheets that were lowered to within reaching height of the audience. Even the Green Room got a greenlit version. Truly fantastic to watch it reminded me of some of the bizarre things like were at the Opening ceremony for the China Olympics last year. This was the most proffesionally done Eurovision I've ever seen and as for Jade Ewen and the UK entry, not really my cup of tea, but I am glad that we came in the top 5 because all the whingers wouldn't have stopped otherwise.
