Ahhh... good ol' achievement points. What Xbox 360 gamer isn't mezmerized by the sound of unlocking an achievement?

I recall some of the crazy things I've done just to earn these points that mean absolutely nothing. I've rented, even bought games for achievements. I've attempted to play Call of Duty 2 on Veteran for achievements (anyone who's ever played CoD2 knows how hard this is!) I've wasted hours and hours on weekends where I should be doing something important (hanging out with friends, doing homework, showering.... just kidding) just to get achievements!!! I know I'm not the only one... just look at the leaderboards at www.mygamercard.net and you will find people who are hopelessly obsessed with these little numbers.

But, as the rumors state, all of this wasted time might not be so wasted. Just check out this article on Xbox 360 Fanboy and you'll know what I mean. Basically, when you get a certain amount of gamerscore, you can get "rewards" from Microsoft sponsors, somewhat like rewards for spending money with a credit card. Lets take Apple as an example sponsor. Lets say you get 25,000 gamerscore. You could then go to Microsoft.com, enter your gamertag, email, and password, and receive a $50.00 coupon towards any Apple product. All of this is speculation, but it would be a great marketing tool for both Microsoft and the sponsors.

I know it's wishful thinking.... but wouldn't it be great if we were rewarded with tech gadgets for playing games?

Thanks for reading

I'm going to do something really cheap here and copy/paste a comment I made in another friends blog that covered a similar topic. Basically, I'm still so ticked off I couldn't bare writing it again.

"I'm a huge achievement points fan... or I should say, I was. To keep a long story short; my console used to be connected to Live, but then I moved and didn't have an internet connection. Whenever I went over to a friend's apartment, I would do the "Recover Gamertag from Xbox Live" option on his 360, so that we could both play online without me appearing as a "Guest". Well, I would then go home and continue playing my my console that wasn't connected to the net (and subsequently, didn't know that my gamertag had actually been "recovered" on another console), and earned more and more achievements.

Finally I had high-speed hooked up, and even though I used the same profile on my console, Xbox Live informed me that I had to Recover it as it was supposidly on my friends, and upon doing so... I lost all of my achievements that I had earned since the last time I had been on live. Basically, my gamertag was fragmented into an offline (on my console) and online (on my friends') profile, and when I connected to the 'net, the online overwrote the offline.

I went from being over 10,000 to a little more than 8,000. All of my Saints Row, Oblivion, BK games, FEAR, and most of my Gears of War achievements.... gone. Now, I just don't have the same ambition to get achievements, becuase the ones I do get will make up for the ones that I've already lost, and the ones I've already lost (espeically the likes of Oblivion), I will never have the time to get back."

How about if you get 100000, microsoft sends one of its reps to slap you in the face because you officially have no life. Would'nt that be nifty

I am totally obsessed with achievements too. It's like crack, I mean I'm finishing terrible games just to get them! But if my achievements got erased I just wouldn't care anymore, I mean We've put so much time into getting them I wouldn't want to do it again.

The rumors are true as GameSpot just put up an article about a new contest starting on the 12th. Increase your Gamerscore by 1,500 points by the 12th of April and you'll win prizes. What prizes you ask? Well that depends on how many Gamerpoints you currently have.

As for me, since I went from 10,000+ down to 8,000+ (see comment above) I have been knocked out of the highest eligible prize. Unless of course I boost it up to 5 digits very, very quickly.

Although I just found out it's for the United States only. I don't know if that makes me feel better, or more angry... nope, it's definitly more angry.
