I hosted a LAN party last weekend for the first time.  I couldn't do it before because of the size of my living condition.  Now, I have a much bigger place- one that can easily host a good LAN party.  And that I did!

We played UT04, Rogue Spear: Black Thorn, and Serious Sam: First Encounter.  I used Serious Sam as a filler, UT04 as tournament mode, and RS:BT as straight up team vs team.  I have to admit that Black Thorn was probably the most popular one to play.  I think it may be because UT04 was too broad a spectrum of player skills.  If you're a n00b, you have no chance against someone who's played for hours on end.  That also goes for if you're out of practice.  I know that I was sorely out of practice - and it showed!

But with the RS series, you have a one-hit scene where a novice can walk behind a pro and cap 'em.  Also, it's pretty sweet when your team gets wiped out and you then avenge your comrades by slaughtering the whole entire enemy.  Oh, how sweet.

There was one time my team decided to have some fun.  So, I equiped myself with some C-4, and placed a charge in a room that led into a corner room where we would then camp.  We would have a heart-beat sensor awaiting the other team with their heart-beat sensor, knowing that they would be tracking us.  It was so great!  You could tell they were strategizing when they found out where we were.  So, when they charged the first room, I pulled the trigger and then... they dissapeared off the heart-beat sensor.  Maybe cause their hearts were nowhere to be sensed... bua ha ha ha ha!!!!  One guy went the long way, so I had to cap him when he opened our door.  Yep, it was great.  Of course, the first time we tried this, it didn't work.  In fact, we were destroyed.  But that's because we made a mistake: don't stand next to a door that is waiting to be fragged!  Also, don't pick a room with multiple entrances.  More than likely, they'll pick the one that isn't rigged.

Overall, it was a successful event.  Hopefully, we'll have it again in a few weeks.  I may have to stay out of the tournament, though.  I learned that I can't run a tournament and participate at the same time.  I'm learning a lot by hosting...

Is there a lot of gamers in Romania? Are you Romanian? If American, are you Military or what?

i'm glad you had fun

Why would I be military? Yes there are a lot of gamers here in Romania... it's a poor country but most kids from the city have computers. There are many internet cafes too, the venues for LAN Parties... but I haven't been to one for a long time.

If you were american, one of the main reason's for being overseas is military. Maybe you should host a LAN Party

True. I've made plans yesterday with some old friends to go to an Internet Cafe for a LAN Party later this week. Until then, UT2004 online and NWN online will have to suffice.

THAT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!!! yes, standing by a door that is about to be fragged isnt very good. how in the heck did i walk just walk through a room that had a C4 and a SA heartbeat sensor just sitting there, on the floor, and get blown up. i must be a n00b.....NOT! and remember in UT04 when i found the nuke launcher and nuked you? that was fun
lets do it again sometime *coughonemonthcough*

And remember the time I killed your team, then you killed my team and I saw your footprints in the snow- so I went around the building and fragged your unsuspecting obtuse self. ...yeah... that was great...

darn those footprints...
remember that one match where you killed the rest of my team and then i just followed the footprints and got all of you? that was fun

I think I was part of the team that was dead... I don't know. Once I was dead, my team was sure to follow. I remember there was one time I killed your team and you ran around. I saw you on the radar, but my team didn't. I yelled, "He's behind you. RUN!!!" And they said, "I don't see him." Then you killed them. That was so dumb, why don't people listen! Of course, remember the time Yoshi/Mario/Death was all alone against my team, and you told him that I wasn't there any more and you were right and he was dead... that was great. Again, why don't they listen?

yoshi/mario/death needs to pick his name and keep it. andway, remember the one time where we were all named "death"? that was because we were going to use HB pucks to make you think our team was elsewhere, then kill you when you tried to get us. the problem was, if "death" throws down a puck, it comes up on the HB sensor as "death" so theres 3 "deaths" sitting there and you know our team is made up of JS32, death, and skippy, not death, death, and death. so thats why we all changed our names to death. that was quite an interesting conversation before we started- "i must be schitzophrenic" i said that

We knew you were trying something fishy. So we mimicked you to foil whatever you were cooking. We had no clue, though. Pretty smart idea.
