Ok, time to start playing Oblivion again. I'm sick of trying to power-level or not using fast travel so I am back to just role playing (with fast travel) and not worrying about getting all +5s when I level. Since I've already finished the game as a Mage and as a melee fighter, I thought that I would try a marksman / sneak type character. My character will be a Male Khajiit (male for strength to carry loot, Khajiit for Nighteye). A Wood Elf would be a better fit in skills, but I don't want to waste magicka casting Nighteye over and over again. I know I will probably find a ring of Nighteye very soon in the game, but I haven't tried a Khajiit very much anyway. My major skills will be... Marksman, Sneak, Armorer (to repair my bows), Conjuration, Security (useful until level 10 when I get the skeleton key), Alteration (for Feather), and Mysticism (for Soul Trap). One thing that I'm afraid of is leveling too fast and becoming weaker relatively speaking as the game progresses. In the past, I would pick major skills that I didn't plan on using (which is counter-intuitive), so I would level slower but yet more powerfully in the long run. I don't think I can afford to do that with a Marksman / Sneak character though due to the fact that it would be too weak to play as minor skills. I'm going to take Apprentice as the birthsign so I won't run out of Magicka casting Conjuration multiple times in one fight. The attributes I'm choosing are Strength and Intelligence (for encumbrance and total magicka). Notice the skills I didn't take... any armor or restoration skills for one. I don't plan on getting hit very much, and that's why I'm not worried about Endurance either. Alchemy is a skill that I use so much, it will always be the first to 100 anyway. If I use Alchemy as a major skill (just like Illusion for Nighteye), I will definitely level too quickly. Blade, blunt, hand-to-hand, and block are all unnecessary for this build. I considered Destruction, but then that would be too much like a Mage (which was fun, but now I want to try something different). So overall here's my strategy with this character... Sneak up to a creature, poison my bow, fire an arrow, conjure some fodder, fire more arrows (rinse and repeat). I will let you know how it works. By the way, the spell checker on this site sucks. I had to cut and paste from another word processor. Or I could just learn how too spell, nah.
