Well i spent my birthday in a nice hotel in Glasgow with the girlfriend and we had a good time down there for a few days. It was a welcome break from the normal life and having room service deliver my breakfast was awesome, the bill not so awesome lol.
Went to go see Star Wars: The Clone Wars while we were down there and it was surprisngly good. Infact i thought it was better than the live action Attack of the Clones film starring Ewen McGregor, Natalie Portman and Samuel L Jackson etc. It just didn't have the bad acting, angsty storyline and was all round kid orientated fun. And the scene involving Anakin and Ashoka hiding in a box to sneak past some droids really made me laugh. I doubt the creators mean't it to be a homage to MGS but thats what everyone was saying after we left the cinema.
I downloaded the EU Warhammer Online beta client so i can hopefully take part in the Gamer Connect Beta event planned. Click here for more details on the event and click here to download the EU beta client. Pretty sure you can't make an account for it yet until the 7th but i may be wrong. I just hope i haven't missed my chance to take part in this open beta.
A lot of games coming out soon that i'm interested in, FarCry2, Crysis Warhead, L4D, Spore, Mercs 2 and maybe WAR. But what with having an aging PC that struggles to keep a decent FPS in COD4 and a lack of money to be able to afford them i think i'll just wait and maybe buy a new PC around Christmas time. A long way off i know but i figure by then i'll hopefulyl have more cash to splash out on new games and a new PC!...thats the plan anyway lol.
Downloaded the new Google Chrome web browser and have been using that for a few hours now. Infact i'm posting this blog while using it. I have to say it isn't bad at all but neither does it have anything that makes me want to stop using FireFox v3 and start using Chrome from now on. Click here to download Chrome.
Other than that i have been trying to play COD4 and improve my skills but having not played it in awhile i really suck. Infact i almost rage quit the other day because i really got owned constantly but i took 5, had a smoke and a cup of tea then went back to playing. I guess my break worked as i finally managed to break my Kill/Death ratio even for the match.
Also just finished playing some TF2 on the PC with a fellow GSUK user, tamsj04, in which we managed to lay down the law to some other TF2 players. Until i switched teams and for about 5 minutes was at the mercy of tams's heavy and his minigun. But a few casual headshots and finally switching back to the other team allowed us to go all out on those punks!....its also increased my love for the Scout aswell. I lost count how many times i killed people using the little pistol which hardly ever gets used lol.
PAX is also over and from what i gather general opinion is that it was awesome. Some even saying it could be the new E3 but i can't really comment since i've never been to either. But i would say that E3 may be better left as an industry professionals show and PAX perhaps stay as a public show?
I'm also hoping to get some time in and start writing up more edits for the Wiki on GiantBomb. Its something i've been meaning to do for awhile now but it just seems everytime i get to starting it i end up having to do moderator things. So this Sunday i think i'll sit down and try my best to get some reviews and edits up!
Well i think that covers everything really, so until next time!
Well folks its another blog from yours truly. I'll apologise now for not commenting on everyones blog recently, however i've just read through about 20 or so blogs and left comments. I've just not been spending that much time on Gamespot lately and what time i do spend is usually in the GSUK or PC board.
Haven't been up to anything special really, just been playing a bit of TF2 and Dawn of War for the PC. Finally managed to finish the Tau campaign in the Dark Crusade and i intend to go through it again as the Orks, gotta love having a big WAAAAAGH! now and again right?
The Orks just make me smile when i play them, just utter badass and brutal green fighting machines. The sort of enemy you'd generally wet yourself and think "oh snap!" if you were unlucky enough to be fighting. If i ever decide to start playing Warhammer online i think i'll probably play one of these bad boys. I just wish that Warhammer Online was infact set in the 40k universe instead of the fantasy one. It would have been great to have RvR combat between armies of Space Marines and Orks as players just go crazy attacking one another, but oh well...another fantasy MMO as is the trend.
Speaking of Warhammer, Dawn of War 2 has finally been announced to include the Tyranid faction which we all expected to be honest but its nice to see they made it official. So far the insectoid race looks pretty cool and i'm hearing rumour they will be a big difference to play compared to the other factions we've played before in the series. So hears to hoping we get the Tau included in DoW2. Yeah i have a new liking for the Tau, they just appeal to my playing styling i guess.
Preordered my 2 disc collectors edition of the Iron Man movie from play.com aswell for £14.99 so i'm well chuffed with that. Look forward to seeing that posted in the mail whenever it finally gets released. I've also decided to hold off on buying a new PC for the time being, i know i said i was gonna try and get one for my birthday.
But with my 19th birthday on the 25th of August i've sort of been reviewing my life and current situation. I mean i live at home with the folks still and work part time in my local pub and theres no opportunities in my local are for work. Plus i can't actually drive which is a big hassle but honestly its more expense than its worth for someone my age at the moment.
So i've been putting a little thought into renting a flat out and trying to get a job in town, which is like 50 miles away from where i currently live. Theres more opportunities there and its a city so perhaps my online orders will arrive within a day or two instead of a week or two like they do now lol.
However in all seriousness it has caused a few rifts between the girlfriend and myself as she works full time in a local tourist information centre. Its a good job and has potential to open a lot of doors for her eventually once she stays there a year or two more. However thats a long bloody time to wait and i've pretty much had it with living here any longer. So i guess we'll have to see how it goes.
Now moving onto my total access subscription for Gamespot, i'm cancelling it. I like the site, i wont say love because i've lost a little passion for it to be honest. But with the new update there is absolutely no reason for someone from the UK to need a subscription to Gamespot at all. We don't get to enter tournaments and most events are US only so i've sort of given up on the subscription thing. That and we get no benefits over the regular users here now, not even HD videos.
Also i have gained a level and i'm now a paramecium which is cool because i actually knew what it was when i saw it lol. So on that note i think its time to end the blog, cheers for reading
So i finally decided to go and get a hair cut after having my curly 10 inch mop for ages and i have to say i can't believe i left it so long. It feels weird not having long hair now, i got a good 5 or 6 inches taken off, but atleast i can see clearly when i tilt my head or bend down completely. That and i wont get mistaken for Jesus anymore.
Also pulled my thumb out and got some gaming time in recently with my new purchase, Dawn of War: Platinum Edition from STEAM. The package includes the original DoW, Winter Assault expansion and the Dark Crusade stand alone. I missed DoW when it first came out since i haven't got much love for RTS games, other than Rise of Nations, but i find myself slowly coming back to them recently.
But seeing videos of Starcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2 i find myself really wanting to get back into thise genre that i've ignore for so very long. And thankfully the DoW series has been a blast in helping me do it. Currently going through the Dark Crusade single player campaign as the Tau Empire and kicking arse for the greater good.
I havent ventured into online play yet since im still getting the hang of each different army but i've found a secret love for the Tau. Space Marines and Orks may be cool but the Tau just appeal to me more, mainly because i love stealth capturing control points and such like.
Other than that i've been playing a little bit of a less well known game, Peggle. If you preordered the Orange Box through STEAM you'll remember getting a Valve themed version of the game for free, it got me hooked and i payed the £5 for the "deluxe" version which is even better. Its a good game and a great time waister if you just want to pass some hours of boredom. Been trying the challenge games where you need to score 300,00 for each level to complete it. Pretty difficult if i'm being honest but good fun none the less.
Speaking of STEAM related games i have to say i'm disappointed to not see Bionic Commando Rearmedon there upon its release. I heard rumour and then someone did say it was fact that Capcom were going to release it through STEAM aswell but that doesn't appear to be the case. I honestly slammed this game when i heard it mainly because of the increased price for the PC version compared to the console version. And tha fact it was a sidescroller, i had this horrid feeling it would just be some POS port but apparently buzz for the game is high in the PC community so i was hoping to give it a chance. Guess i'll have to go make a D2D account and download it, assuming its there at all?
But oh well with the Heavy update for TF2 planned for release on Tuesday next week i imagine i'll be back to playing TF2 a lot. Some of the achievement names for this class just make me lol. Then there is the mention of a new Meet The... video being release along with the heavy update aswell and apparently its going to be a special one. So my guess and hope is its the Pyro video so hears to hoping Valve reveal whether the Pyro is a man or a woman and end the argument lol.
Suppose i better mention the new Gamespot design and layout aswell. When i first saw it i was quick to dislike it, maybe i dislike change?, but i'm warming to it and atleast everything isn't so cramped with the new wider style. Look forward to seeing how the forums will turn out when they get the update aswell. Speaking of the forums i've got to gripe about the large number of topics in the PC section with titles like "X game is overrated!", "Why is PC gaming dead?", "Whats the most overrated game ever?". ENOUGH WITH THEM ALREADY!....
Anyway i'll leave that rant for another blog maybe, thanks for reading folks!
