Ok, so I've played this game that I have been waiting for since Winter Assault, and I have to say I have mixed feelings on it.
First of, this is no longer Dawn of War, which makes me sad. It should be called "Company of Marines" or something, because thats essentially what it is, Company of Heroes with Warhammer 40k races. Now, don't get me wrong, CoH was a great game, but this really doesn't feel right to me.
Sure, its more true to small battle of War40k tabletop, which is admirable. But it really does feel trimmed down from the original saga.
Ive played I think probably half of the campaign and a couple of skirmishes against the pc just to see what its like, and I'm really not sold on either, sadly.
The only redemption I can see is the promise that Relic/THQ is trying new things, having a go at expanding the industry, as they did with the original DoW. Unfortunately, for me, this hasn't been pulled off, and I'm stuck saying "Dawn of War was better than this
".
A real kick in the proverbial balls came when I went to install it too. Steam decided that the fact that I bought the hard copy wasn't reason enough to install it from the cd....for some reason. Also, the fact that it runs through steam and is linked to your games for windows account is kinda irritating. Why can I not play single played when not connected to the internet? What the HELL is that?
I doubt playing more of the game will change my oppinions, as I have experienced pretty much everything the game has to show. But I will not post a full review until I have AT LEAST finished the story.
Keep your eyes out for it soon.
