So I picked up The Dark Knight and I have to say, this really was one hell of a movie. I think the best part about it was that it almost had everyone thinking, this isn't a superhero movie, this is a crime drama. I remember when I saw it in theatres most of the people actually forgot it was a superhero movie.

Batman Movie Poster

That seems to be what makes Batman so great. Superpowers are nice but it's the human side of things that pushes Batman ahead of other superheroes. I somewhat believe the same for Marvel's Ironman though at some point *SPOILER* (in the comics) he fuses with some parts of the suit thus gaining telekinetic powers. If it sounds confusing, it is. Batman however is just that guy, and pretty much that's it. That's all there is to it. He is THAT GUY! How many people always chose Batman when mentioning favorite heroes? How many people always choose Batman over Superman when asking who is better? Or who can beat who?

Thus leading me to my next point, villains. My top 5 villains ((DC/Marvel Universe) that I extremely favor are:

The Joker (comics Joker cause he kills people)
Apocalypse
Darkseid
Thanos
Killer Croc

The reason why Joker is number one is simply because again like Batman he's human. He can control respect, even among people with superpowers. I realized I liked the Joker a lot when I read The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum graphic novels. Apparently, they were the same two novels given to Ledger to study how to be the Joker. Reading those novels does something to the mind, I swear. You really start to go insane, no joke. I recommend heavily, those two graphic novels if you want to see how the real Joker was. The cartoon had so much editing and he wasn't allowed to kill people or deform them thus making him seem more like a clown when that was completely the opposite. In the comics, especially these two, Joker challenges Batman, shows that all humans have weaknesses while simultaneously almost making Batman go insane himself. You would never think that a conflict could run so deep between a guy who dresses like a bat and another who dresses like a clown but hey anythings possible.

I also recommend The Dark Knight to add to your collection, or possibly start it off. There are a ton of features and any extra equipment (sound system, home theatre, plasma, blue ray, etc) make the movie that much better.

Definitely my favourite movie of the year, and the best movie to pull off 2 villains at the same time.

I agree with ebbderelict...movie is just too insane, it's just like you said, it felt more like a crime drama than a super hero movie. It even had an R-Rated feel to it that most crime thrillers have. I think cause of how successful The Dark Knight was at capturing Batman and Joker others tried to fit in dark styled storylines to a PG-13 movie like Max Payne (which should of been R-Rated and spent more time with) and what not...although The Grudge was a PG-13 rated movie too, I never seen it myself.

But yeah, Dark Knight is ridiculous, I can't wait to buy it on DVD!

Batman and Robin sucked, I was really disappointed.
But Dark Knight sounds good, I'll pick it up!

Killer Croc?! The fact that your top five does not include Lex Luthor or Magneto is a travesty. the Lex Luthor/Superman and Magneto/Xavier conflicts rival, maybe even surpass Joker/Batman. Luthor/Superman, imo, matches Joker/Batman in that, ,while i dislike Superman, because it really plays up to the fact of both men being exact opposites of each other, yet despite that opposition, both men wishing that they could be like the other (Luthor wishing he could live forever or have powers, Superman being alone and the last of his kind). Joker/Batman, on the superficial level, are opposites like Luthor/Batman, but the undercurrent the opposite of Luthor/Superman in that while those men wish they were more like each other, Joker/Batman wish they were less like each other, as at some level, there's that darkness.

Magneto/Xavier is really only interesting due to how it reflects the civil rights movement. Xavier is clearly MLK while Magneto is Malcolm X.

Dark Knight was real good movie. It was like one of those great movies that comes once in your lifetime. I liked this movie mostly because of the Joker. Heath Ledger was a real good actor in his disguise as the Joker, he didnt just play it but he like lived it practically. I still feel like there wasnt a lot of action sequences to pleasure my mind, it lacked in that part or maybe it was just me. I am defnitly getting this movie on Blu Ray this weekend, cant wait to see it.

@ Paladin_King, I was never a big Superman fan, but I know what you mean about Lex Luthor though, but I love Killer Croc again only in the comics. He's much more violent and crazed. In any case I enjoyed the Superman/Darkseid conflicts a lot more cause they were so epic.

Didn't read all of it for the sake of spoilage, lol, but it looks like a great film.

I still haven't seen it yet, but plan to pick it up on BR.

Heath Ledger was perfect for the Joker. I hope DC doesn't get some other weirdo to pull off the job. I hope they keep it how he is. Dead.
