I read a lot about videogames. I own every single console and haldheld of this current generation, and I'm glad I have all of them. Latly, I've seen Nintendo and it's latest portable handheld, the Nintendo DS, get a lot of flak because it's technical specs or apperence isn't up to par with it's latest handheld competition, the Sony PSP. I own a PSP, and I love playing its games, but what I've been seeing latly about the DS is a lot of bullcrap. I've been a supporter of Nintendo since the SNES. It was the first system I ever owned. I grew up with Nintendo, so I feel like when somebody takes a idiotic stab at them, I need to stand up for Nintendo. I think there is a lot of bullsh*t in the gaming community around these two handhelds, and it's getting out of hand. Is the Nintendo DS a bad system because it's competiion has superior graphical capabilities? No. Is that Nintendo DS crap because its getttig only a couple games a month? No. Is the Nintendo DS crap because it doesn't have as many games as the PSP? No. This is what I hear. And those are my answers. I think it is time for people to take a look around them. The PSP is a nice looking system, with a lot of nice looking games, but I don't think that's what gaming is about any more. I think we are just getting out of this era where better looking games are the better choice. I think it needs to be about the new ways we interact with our games. And I'm extreamly pleased that Nintendo has taken the first step in the direction the videogame industry needs to be heading. It's needs to be about new ways to play games. Graphics don't mean sh*t to me anymore, they really don't. If the upcoming Zelda game for the Gamecube has crappy gameplay, to me, it's a crappy game, no matter the graphical quality of the game. It is time for this pointless, idiotic talk about the Nintendo DS to stop.

I wounldn't go as far as saying that nintendo is moving in the right direction, I think that handheld gaming isn't mature enough to move in that direction yet. However, I love both systems and there is too much bad mouthing in both directions IMO.

DS rox. havent played a PSP, but it looks superb. nuff said. pick a system on what games it has, what games will come out for it, and if you like it, not what other people say. like me, im waiting for the Fullmetal Alchemist DS game....mmmm Fullmetal...

MMM, I dunno, man. I'm an old-sch0ol Nintendo crusader too, but there's just something blatantly *meh* about the DS so far. My roommate has one and I play Ridge Racer and the Metroid demo on it. Straight up, the dual screens is a killer idea, but all I've seen it used for so far is a way to split one image up into two larger portions (...yawn) or to provide a HUD type function which is generally more painful/distracting than just keeping everything on one screen. And have you ever tried racing on RR with the touch screen? Take if from me, with a game so cut-and-dry it's not even worth the effort to learn, especially when the gameplay already sucks when using familiar control devices. With Metroid I have a problem with accidentally pressing buttons down when using that teeny tiny stylus doohicky, and I can't be bothered to adapt because either way I'm still moving from room to room shooting the same soulless floating green blobs without even the slightest bit of an idea what they are or why I need to smoke 'em. If you ask this Nindendork, "New ways of playing games" suck so far. Granted, the premises proposed by DS are promising and exciting... but then so was "connectivity" huh?

I can go on and on about how my enthusiasm for DS is has waned, but I'll spare you. Furthermore I can't give any firsthand input on PSP, but I can tell you I'm impressed by their lineup, hardware, (Gameplay>Graphics, yes, but ugly's still ugly *cough* Ridge Racer DS... did I say something?), and appreciable application of connectivity. All I can hope is that Nintendo pulls through with Revolution and uses it to spice DS up a bit, that's all.

I guess what I'm saying is this: I agree that the community is so embarrassingly self-consumed in frivolous droning that it makes my visits to GS more scarce and less entertaining with each trip (the game forum on MySpace is better, and that's sad), but I do find reason for people to be wholly underwhelmed by DS' performance thus far, even without the PSP to compare it to.

are you saying that if the new zelda game had NES graphics but a good story it would be good?

Nicely written, I agree with you.
