Bio
Sara left school at the age of 18, but despite gaining four A-level passes, she decided to pursue a career in modelling rather than becoming a student. It was while modelling that she was first scouted for television, by the producers behind The Girlie Show in 1994. No stranger to early mornings after a stint on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast in 1999 (she would be in the studios for 4.30am).
Bolton born Sara joined Radio 1 in September 1999 to co-present the Saturday lunchtime show alongside Emma B, as well as launching the Sunday Surgery, where she tackled listeners' personal problems alongside Dr Mark Hamilton. The show, along with the production team who make it won a Sony Gold Radio Award for Public Service in May 2000. 'Coxy', as her best mate Zoe Ball affectionately calls her is one of the most sought after names in entertainment after high profile work on The Big Breakfast, Channel 5's entertainment show 'Exclusive', shows on MTV and Channel 4's The Girlie Show. She was bridesmaid at Zoe Ball and Norman Cook's wedding.
Sara Cox presented the Radio 1 Breakfast Show between 2000 and 2003 and is only the second female presenter of the station's flagship show. She presented her first show on Friday 31 March, 2000. She now presents 'We love weekends' between 1pm and 4pm.
Throughout the Summer of 2000 Sara helped lead Radio 1's Live Music assault of the UK, presenting One Big Sunday events around the country, as well as taking her show to Ibiza and Glastonbury and the Radio 1 Love Parade. She continued in summer 2001 with Ibiza and an even bigger set of One Big Sundays. Sara has also won awards for Best DJ from Smash Hits and The Sun.
In 2002 Sara presented the first series of the gameshow 'Make My Day' only to be taken over by Edith Bowman for the second series. However in 2003, she stayed on Channel 4 to present the late night music programme, Born Sloppy with fellow Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray, complete with newly cropped short hair!
