From the time of "Radio Free Europe" in 1981 to the recent "Around the Sun" and beyond, the band who may very well be the very first alternative band just seems to get better with time. They are considered to be "janglemeisters," but I disagree. They are just the kind of people you'd want to invade your home without warning. With instruments in hand, even. This band of four, and now three, southern gentlemen have some of the greatest music this side of Heaven, and I know I'm not the only one to say so. Many guitar bands (and, might I add, grunge vets Nirvana) followed--an example of R.E.M.'s trendsetting abilities.
