- (If americans think The Killers are trying too hard to be americans)
Brandon: Maybe. We came out with Hot Fuss and were wearing suits and there's make-up and there's glitz. Definitely they saw [the Sam's Town look] as being contrived. I absolutely understand that now when I look at it. It's a never-ending battle for me. We were these poor kids and the whole idea of being a band was to put ourselves out there as this glamorous thing. Almost the opposite of the Strokes - these wealthy kids who are these dirty rock'n'rollers. Instead of dirtying it up, it was about excess and overindulgence and names and Gucci. It's almost a hip hop thing. Bling, that's kinda what it was like.
- Brandon: Oasis was a big influence for me. After seeing them live, it made me want to have guitars. I was very set on a keyboard music, on a synth music and it was the bigness about Oasis, after seeing that, I wanted a piece of that so I started persuing guitar players.
- Brandon: I'm obsessive about a lot of aspects of the band – ridiculous stuff, really, like T-shirt designs and other little things. I don't want to mess it all up.
- Brandon: I grew up being a fan of the great rock'n'roll bands. Now we know something great is in our grasp, and we want to get it right.
- (to the crowd of Reading and Leeds festival, before playing When You Were Young)
Brandon: We're going to pick it up a notch, we're going to steal some souls, shake some bones, get some meat.
- (Are you insecure about how you look?)
Brandon: Yeah! I mean sometimes I feel OK, it goes both ways. Sometimes I hate myself...but I love myself too.
- (What misconceptions do you think people have about you and The Killers?)
Brandon: That we're over-confident. It's hard to me to be myself in a situation like this [an interview]. It's not natural to be interviwed. I have a vision of myself as this kind, caring, sentimental person, but I don't know if that comes across.
- (About the third album)
Brandon: We learned that you can't please everyone. But we've got faith in what we do, faith in our fans and faith in the soon-to-be-converted.
- (Before Sam's Town release he said the it was one of the best albums of the last 20 years)
Brandon: I remember exactly where and when I said this sentence. I had no idea which consequences that would have.I was in Las Vegas, at the entrance to my house – it must have been April. I was smoking a cigarette and giving a telephone interview. We've just recorded 'When You Were Young'. What I've said felt like the truth to me at this time. Now I sometimes don't find it that great anymore.
- (Brandon talks about the feedback of his criticism on bands like Panic At The Disco, The Bravery and Fall Out Boy)
Brandon: It's a shame that music can't be for itself and some of the reasons is other than the fact that we may look...differently...we look cute though...other than the fact that we are very cute, I've said some things that led people into only going...you know, not going by their ears but how much they hate me...which sucks because the songs are beautiful no matter how ugly my tongue can be.
- (About the tips he received when he was a bellboy)
Brandon: We used to get pimps going to the hotels a lot. They would promise a good tip as you loaded the car. They never would. Pimps and gypsies, terrible tippers.
- (About how "Read My Mind" was created)
Brandon: We had a song called "Little Angela." But one cool thing about Alan and Flood is that, even thuogh it was intended to be a B side, it was taken very seriously. So we're playing the song and, looking throught the glass into the control room, I could tell Alan was upset. When Alan and Flood argued, they'd go out into the hall, and it really felt like Mom and Dad were fighting. I heard Alan say,"We're trying to make ' Peggy Sue' [into] ' With or Without You,' "which came as a blow because he was basically saying my lyrics weren't good enough. So I started singing melodies, and in two hours it was a whole different song. I think it's the best song we've ever written.
- (Saying about his style changes)
Brandon: It would be boring if I was always the same. I don't do it for the music or the people or the press, it's part of life changing. I get bored of certain things and I move on. There are two ways to look at it; you either represent where you're from, everything about your surroundings, or in my case I feel it's more where the music is taking me. I can't help it – I love so many different types of music I don't want to be tied down.
- Brandon: What song do I hate? I think "Daughters," by John Mayer, would be a good candidate. I don't know why he bugs me so bad.
- (Explaining why they missed NME Awards ceremony)
Brandon: I think I've got a pretty good excuse in that I'm helping my wife to raise a little human. We've got a little boy. Actually, he's in the 90-per centile height range for his age! Also we toured Sam's Town for 14 months and we need time off to get ready for the next one. You wouldn't wanna mess with the thunder.
- (In 2005)
Brandon: We can't wait to make the second album. We learned a lot on the road. When we made 'Hot Fuss' we recorded the songs just the way we played them when we were playing bars in Vegas. This time out we're going to take our time with the guitar and keyboard sounds.
- Brandon: We're holding on to it. It's our ace in the hole. It's a pop song, but when you hear it, it makes you feel dirty. Everybody's going to love it.
- Brandon: I just think it's the whipped cream on top. The Killers are the pie and I guess (my) looks are the cherry.
- Brandon: I think rock music is getting better. The best (selling) music has been hip-hop for quite a while. So those guys are making the money and making the videos.
- Brandon: Music makes my blood flow. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a favorite song. I just want to be the messenger.
- Brandon: I thought we were going to win best rock video, but you just can't beat those Green Day people.
