Bio

As the youngest of three sisters, Mika Nakashima had always dreamed of becoming a singer. Instead of following the usual high school and college academics track, Mika made a demo-tape to a record company and, at 17 years old, was chosen out of a field of three thousand girls to star in a Fall 2001 drama called Kizudarake no Love Song (Scarred Love Song) which broadcast on Fuji TV. On November 7, 2001, in collaboration with Sony Music Japan, she released her debut single, "STARS", as the drama's theme song. Her second single, "CRESCENT MOON," was a limited release of 100,000 copies, yet sold out the opening day. By Spring 2002, she had released the singles "ONE SURVIVE," "Helpless Rain" and "Will", as well as starting volumes of her Film Lotus video collection. Many of her singles reached top 10 status.

In August 2002, she released her first studio album, True, which sold a million copies in three weeks and also reached #1 on the Oricon album charts. It was no surprise that Mika Nakashima received New Artist of the Year accolades from The Japan Gold Disc Awards, 2002 All Japan Request Awards, and the 44th Japan Record Awards. Her second album, Love, also topped the Million mark, and has become her top selling album to date. Her third album, Music, went double platinum, and #1 as well.

Mika's songs have been themes for different shows. "FIND THE WAY" was a closer for Gundam Seed. "Hinotori" (Phoenix) was also an anime closing theme song where she sang in a dress that appeared to be on fire, much like the title says. And "Yuki no Hana" was not only one of her most recognizable and beautiful ballads, but it was also covered by K-pop singer Park Hyo-Shin for the Korean drama Mianhada Saranghada (Sorry, I Love You). "Cry No More" was her seventeenth single and became one of the closing theme songs for the Blood+ anime.

On September 10, 2005, Mika Nakashima made her big screen debut in a live-action version of Nana, a story about two roommates with differing personalities who share the same first name. She also sang the theme song for the movie, and her single, "Glamorous Sky", reached #1 on the Oricon singles charts, selling over 423,000 copies, and becoming the top-selling female single of the year. It also won a Best Video from a Film award.

Mika Nakashima continues to sing, model, and act. One of her more recent efforts being "SAKURA Hanagasumi," her 25th single.
