Bio
Panic! At The Disco comes from the suburbs of Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004. The band formed when friends Spencer Smith and Ryan Ross became tired of covering the blink-182 tunes and recruited classmates Brendon Urie and Brent Wilson. Panic! At The Disco soon caught the eye of Fall Out Boy bassist and owner of Decaydance Records Pete Wentz, who quickly signed them. It really helped with their clever lyrics, pop-punk influenced songs with some theatrical touches, and catchy beats to get Wentz's attention. Wentz referred them to Fueled By Ramen, who signed them to Wentz imprinted label. They were still in high school when this all happened.
They recorded their debut album, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," with Matt Squire. Their debut was released in September 2005, and soon they hit the road on the successful Nintendo Fusion Tour with bands Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack, Boys Night Out, and the Starting Line. In early 2006, their first single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" found its way up the TRL charts, and the band received even more attention and more fans. Also in 2006, the bad set on the road with Acceptance, The Academy Is…, and Hellogoodbye. And the band continued to prove being as success; they played at sold-out venues in many locations. The band attracted a lot of recognition because of their online presence, with Purevolume having them consistently on their Top 10 signed band list and reaching #1 on the MySpace chart. They also did well on TRL. But the band had no real plans to go mainstream. They said that they never meant for it to happen, and they apologized for it on their website.
Panic! found great success, but in 2006, some changes were made. Panic! bassist Brent Wilson was kicked out and replaced with the band's friend Jon Walker, who they met while he was working with The Academy Is . . .. Brent seeked legal action against his ex-band mates, but Panic successfully continued on, headlining their first tour in summer 2006, winning an MTV VMA, and heading out on a successful tour in fall of 2006. After their tour, the guys in Panic! decided to take some time off in early 2007 to work on their sophomore album. In 2008, the band went through another change, dropping the "!" from their original name Panic! At The Disco, but also released their second album and embarked on a tour, delighting fans who were glad to hear from a favorite band again.
On July 6, 2009, Ryan Ross and Jon Walker announced that they would be leaving the band to pursue their own music careers, and Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith announced they would carry on as Panic! At The Disco, also readding the "!" to the name. This news was a complete shock to the fans, but the band guaranteed that their upcoming tour dates with blink-182 and No Doubt would go on as scheduled and still release upcoming music that had already been planned.
