Born in the Netherlands, Charles de Lint's family moved to Canada shortly after his birth; he now resides in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with his partner, Mary Ann Harris. De Lint is credited with establishing the mythic fantasy or urban fantasy genre, which has magical elements blended with an urban setting. His most famous creation using this style is his "Newford Series" of books. Charles is also interested in music, which he incoporates into his writing, as well as participating in a band that plays in a local pub weekly. He writes a monthly book review column for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction as well.
