Listen to one song. Just one is all it takes before the intelligent listener with an attuned ear is blown away and drawn in to this cornucopia of original talent. Mixing the classical-style music of the cello with rock, and perhaps a little electronic throughout, Rasputina refuses to be categorized in any one genre. They are stunningly unlike anything else, which is exactly what the musical world needs. From their beautiful historical costumes worn when performing to their beautiful and story-telling lyrics, Rasputina's music is more than just a refreshing and entrancing delight for the ears. No other band is like Rasputina, and no other band can compare. The sounds are beautiful, and I can truly find no other way to properly describe it other than enthralling and entrancing. They definitely deserve your time.

Rasputina are much like The Dresden Dolls, in that their music is unique, that they can't be compared to any other artist.... even though I know I just compared them to The Dresden Dolls, Raspy are still original and talented, and pretty much every "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan seems to fall in love with them.
Just like The Dresdens, Rasputina's music tends to sometimes display a sense of humour (Christian Soldiers, Diamond Mind), and also a sense of deep meaning. I'm sure the front woman, Melora Creager, is a pretty funny person in general because she always seems to be making jokes on live concert tracks. Rasputina are most known for using the cello and dressing in Victorian clothes. My fave songs include Transylvanian Concubine, Things I'm Gonna Do, and Tourniquet (originally sung by Marilyn Manson).

In a time when so many bands sound the same, its great to hear such an original group as Rasputina. With the basic set up of 2 cellos and a drum set, they can make some awe-inspiring music. They can turn from an almost psychedelic sound, to an energenitic (and sometimes distorted) sound between songs.
There sound is always progressing, starting out with an almost \"acoustic\" sound on \"Thanks for the Ether\" to a very \"electric\" sound on \"Cabin Fever\", to their country influenced (at least from the songs I have heard) release with \"Frustration Plantation\".
One thing is for sure, as long as Rasputina is around making music, there will always be something original and good to listen too. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to listen to something a little outside the norm.
Song Recommendations: Transylvania Concubine, Gingerbread Coffin, My Little Shirtwaist Fire.
