Doug gives real life and three dimensionality to his character, DS Stuart Turner. Stuart is intelligent, driven, sneaky, and dislikes getting his hands dirty; he also likes to win, which sometimes leads him to do and say things that get up other people's noses. It's entirely to Doug's credit and talent that he manages to make Stuart sympathetic and appealing even when he does some appalling things. The four episodes at Christmas provided him with the chance to show some real depth of emotion as well as the opportunity to show off the more action aspects of his talents. Stuart is one of the strongest and most unique characters in CID, he will be sorely missed.
Doug is a strong and intelligent actor with a breadth of talent that has been mostly untapped in his time as Stuart Turner. I for one would like to see him headline his own series.

I've only ever seen Doug Rao on "The Bill" as Stuart Turner, a suave but calculating DS whose colleagues haven't much time for, but with his dark almost exotic looks is an absolute dream to watch. My only wish is that the wardrobe department could offer his character more than those V-neck jumpers he has to wear. As I haven't seen this superb actor in anything other than "The Bill" I'll have to go on about his role as Stuart Turner who is probably Sun Hill's first metrosexual DS. Turner is vain, has an eye for the classier females and dosen't like getting his hands dirty on the job if possible.
