Yoshihiro Togashi, a manga-ka legend, was born in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan on April 26, 1966. His first work was “Tonda Birthday Present” in 1986. Following this was Tende Showaru Cupid (An Ill-tempered Cupid in Heaven) in 1989, which was only three volumes long, and Okami Nante Kowakunai! (I'm Not Afraid of Wolves) also in 1989, which sold only 1 volume.
His major success came in one of the most popular manga (and later anime) “Yu Yu Hakusho”, which began publication in 1990. It was printed every week in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump (as were his other manga), and was compiled into 19 volumes. It went on to sell over 40 million copies in just Japan!! After his smash hit, Togashi-sensei didn’t just stop like some manga-ka, he continued with “Level E” in 1996 (3 volumes), and Hunter X Hunter in 1998 which is still ongoing in Weekly Shonen Jump and has 15+ volumes.
