I'm telling you, the Rev. W. Awdry was the best author in the 1940's. He did my favorite books, which are "The Railway Series" in the United Kingdom. He was famous for writing books of Thomas the Tank Engine and his other friends. He was a great railway modeler. Also, my number 1 favorite TV show was based on "The Railway Series". Too bad he's gone forever in our lives, same as Walt Disney. His work is still great. The Railway Series are still popular today. I used to own two of his books which are "Thomas the Tank Engine" and "Henry the Green Engine" until I lost them. Speaking of which, I should buy the books now!

For all my life, I have loved Thomas the Tank Engine. However, when I was in Year Two, I was growing bored of it. But for Christmas, I got a Railway Series Collection book and I learnt all of the original stories and I fell in love again. The reverend created the series for his son, Christopher, who was sick during the second world war and his wife convinced him to release the stories as children's books. Wilbert decided to and the publishers adored the stories of Edward, Henry and Gordon and asked for more books. Soon, Thomas, James, Percy, Toby and all the others arrived and more soon followed to make this series great. I love all of his stories, espically Trucks and Edward's Exploit. Sadly, the reverend has passed away but his series lives on still today after sixty years.

The Rev. W. Awdry's story started when his son Christopher was a boy, and sick in bed with the measles. Hoping to make him feel better, Awdry told him a Cinderalla story of a little blue engine named Edward. (The story has been adapted into Edward & Gordon on the show). Christopher, wanting to hear more stories, asked his father to tell him. So as Christopher got better, Awdry had ideas of turning his little stories into books, which he finally did. This book series was called the Railway Series, which fired up the imagination for the great show "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends", in which most of its stories come from the books themselves.

Awdry's first book, "The Three Railway Engines" was a hit to the world, as many and many people bought it, and soon, the next book came out. The second was "Thomas the Tank Engine", in which touched many children's hearts.

The Reverend W. Awdry is a great man. If it wasn't for him, Thomas wouldn't be in my life, or anyone's life for that matter! So three cheers for Wilbert Awdry!

Wilbert Awdry is the man who wrote The Railway Series, the books that would evolve into the Thomas the Tank Engine TV show. He wrote twenty six books, all of which are classics, as well as a few individual episodes for the show. Because he grew up around railways, he was more than qualified to write about trains. Once his son was ill with the measles, his imagination took off. His first story was about an old engine, who we know today as Edward. Twenty five more books would follow, eventually a TV show aired, and the rest is history. Thomas is now one of the most popular children's shows ever made, although it has strayed drastically from Awdry's original ideas.
Before his death in 1997, Rev. Awdry was awarded an OBE for his works. How did Thomas evolve from a bedtime story to a worldwide pheonomenon? The answer is the greatness of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry.
