- Divine was the inspiration for the song 'Divine' by Antony And The Johnsons (which can be found on their self-titled album).
- Divine was often a regular at the infamous Studio 54 during the late 1970s.
- In 1988, Milstead was set to portray the dual character of Peggy Bundy's Mother and her Uncle Otto on the series Married With Children. Unfortunately, he died the night before tapping of a heart attack, at the age of 42. The producers of Married With Children sent flowers to the funeral, along with a humorous card that read, "If you didn't want to do the show, you could have just SAID something!"
- Whilst filming Pink Flamingos, Divine was arrested twice for shoplifting- for stealing first a pair of canvas director's chair seat covers and then steaks (just as Divine's character Babs does in the movie)--but escaped jail and ended up on probation.
- Divine had a stage career, performing in plays such as Women Behind Bars (which ran for a year off-Broadway then transferred to the West End in London) and The Neon Woman (which played to sell-out crowds in New York, San Francisco and Chicago).
- Divine sang the theme song to Female Trouble.
- Divine appeared live at the Flamingo club in Blackpool, UK on 20 January 1986.
- Divine appeared at the famous Hacienda club in Manchester, UK on February 16, 1983– this show has been released on DVD.
- Divine is in part the inspiration for the design of Ursula The Sea Witch in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989)
- In an interview in 1988, Hal Rubinstein described Divine as having ‘a screen image that combined the best of Joan Crawford, Ida Lupino and Broderick Crawford’.
