Will the new Captain Kirk be the new Jack Ryan?

Actor Chris Pine, fresh off of stepping into Captain Kirk's space boots, is now in negotiations to step into Alec Baldwin's, Harrison Ford's and Ben Affleck's boots.

From Variety:

Paramount Pictures has begun negotiations with Chris Pine to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels.

UPDATE: Paramount confirmed this story late Tuesday, and in a statement, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman said: "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."

This is pretty standard stuff.  Ryan Gosling has been touted as the next Jack Ryan for the better part of two years now, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure is well known to throw the most coveted, high profile parts, at hot young actors (see Channing Tatum or Megan Fox).  So who knows if we will see Chris Pine, the information concerning the script for the next Jack Ryan adventure is definitely interesting news.

Hossein Amini, the writer mentioned who will take the reins, and reboot the Jack Ryan series, is not an obvious choice.  Writer of dramas like Wings of the Dove and Jude, and the extremely long delayed Killshot, Hossein Amini is a very odd choice.  Its believed that this next Jack Ryan movie will be an original story, not based on any Tom Clancy novel.
