Kid’s Perspective

The make-up, wardrobe, and size-changes alone (Alice is as big as a house, then small enough to fit inside of a teapot) will enchant kids of most ages. There is literally so much to see in the movie, that kids could watch the movie twenty times before all of the fine details were noted.

One of the most entertaining sights of the whole film is the “Fudderwupping� dances joyously performed by the Mad Hatter and Alice when each experiences victory. I can just picture my own children imitating those funky moves.

Beware, though; the stunning sights of the film also include dramatic be-headings, wayward eyeballs, and Jabberwocky blood, making it all quite intense for most younger viewers.

Movie Tone

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland rivals any film in the fantasy/adventure genre and is a great bet for a creative and stunning storytelling experience.

In a fantastical film that would have been complete even without a “moral,� the inspiring message to young people that they can make their own decisions, do what is right without fear, and make the impossible possible, is the best reason to love Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Other Suggestions

Stirring message aside, I would recommend telling younger viewers about Tim Burton’s strong and bold Alice, but showing them Disney’s animated version of the film. For older kids and adults of all ages, rest assured Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is a treat for the eyes, a trip for the imagination, and far more than just an adaptation of a children’s classic.

I saw Disney's version years ago when I was a kid (in Finnish), and don't recall all that much from it... other than that it was a weird, psychedelic movie.

I saw Disney's version years ago when I was a kid (in Finnish), and don't recall all that much from it... other than that it was a weird, psychedelic movie.

They should have handed out glossaries before the movie because I certainly felt like I needed one; in our movie theatres, there are Finnish and Swedish subtitles running on the bottom of the screen. Since I prefer the English version, I very hard try not to look at the subs and listen to what they actually say. In this movie, I just couldn't follow what was going on, because the words seemed utter gibberish most of the time.

Since anything they were saying sounded like utter nonsense, it was hard to follow what was going on at times - not to mention annoying. I'm sure seeing the movie with English subtitles would help - and watching it repeatedly, too. And even without the odd words, the movie's plot seemed to be... lacking something. Coherency, maybe?

Sure, the idea of the movie is that it takes place in a world that doesn't necessary make any sense. The characters were very eccentric, especially Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter who made very little sense at best. (And if they tried to sell the movie with his performance, I'll have to say that his character wasn't nearly as powerful as I would have hoped.)

The plot itself was kind of good - when it made sense - but there was still something missing. It was amusing, but not outrageously so, and while Alice had a struggle to choose whether or not she would take a path appointed to her, that particular fight seemed to go over rather smoothly in the end.

The movie looked beautiful and magical, and very unreal. Bright colors and deep darkness. There were some parts in the movie that were surprisingly gruesome, so this is most definitely not a movie for small kids.

I doubt I'll watch this again, for a long time at least. A decent movie, but with a lot of cracks and holes in the story, not to mention missing something that would have stabilized the whole experience.

I have to say that the most enjoyable thing of all was the Cheshire Cat and the Hatter's hat.

For some reason, this site has been really buggy on me recently, and it took me quite a bit of time and effort to find out how to access this particular movie. But at long last, I can finally write the review that I've wanted to write. Tim Burton's version of "Alice In Wonderland" brings all of the characters from the Lewis Caroll books to life in a way that has never been visualized before, in wonderful, glorious 3D! 8) On the day Alice is supposed to accept a Lord's hand in marriage, she flees her engagement party and finds that the hole she once fell down into Wonderland is still there for her to go again. So she follows the White Rabbit, but when she gets into Wonderland, she finds the place drastically changed from what she knew of it before. Wonderland has been conquered by the tyrannical, "Bloody" Red Queen who has such a MAD temper, she screams, "Off with your head" if you do ANYTHING that upsets her. With her loyal and trusted servant the Knave of Hearts, the Red Queen seeks to rule Wonderland and rename it as her own Underland, where she rules everybody and everything with an iron fist and her fearsome Jabberwocky. Alice tackles the problem first by freeing her old friends Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit away from the Red Queen's imprisonment, and steals a legendary sword away from a Bandersnatch. But it's only when Alice meets the Red Queen's sister, the good and pure White Queen, that Alice realizes that everything in Wonderland is as real as Alice is, and Alice is the only person capable of slaying the Jabberwocky, the Red Queen's instrument of power and control. A fierce battle wages, as the warriors on the White Queen's side battle fast and fiercely to free Wonderland from the Red Queen's control. But when Alice cuts off the Jabberwocky's head, the Red Queen's soldiers quickly surrender to the White Queen's rule, and refuse to fight for the Red Queen any longer. For the crimes that the Red Queen and the Knave of Hearts committed, they are banished to the far off reaches of Wonderland together in chains, and nobody is to ever show them a bit of kindness ever again. Alice is then allowed to return to her own world, and she decides to live life the way she wants to live it. And Alice decides to continue the boat trading business her late father had started, and Alice bravely sets out to explore the world knowing that she will be able to face anything. This is a highly wonderful movie, and I highly recommend it for the whole family to see! :idea: Enough said! ;)
