A movie about accepting who you are as well as who other people are, this movie joins "Kung Fu Panda" on the list of animated movies that are both funny, AND intelligently written by people who know how to write animated movies! A fine, talented, voice-over cast including Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Cann, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, and of course, the ever popular Mr. T in a role tailor made for him as the tough as nails cop, all actors bring a bit of their own personality to this movie. This film follows the exploits of Flint Lockwood who wants to become recognized as a talented kid who can bring great inventions to the world! Unfortunately, even as he has grown, he hasn't quite gotten there yet. Spray On Shoes, Remote-Controlled TV's, Rat Birds, Hair Unbalder, and the Flying Car have all been unqualified disasters. And the place where Flint lives, is a tiny place called Swallow Island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The town of Swallow Falls has been devastated ever since the Sardine Factory went out of business, and the citizens of the town have been longing for some really decent food ever since that has happened. Sensing a need, Flint Lockwood decides to create a machine that can convert water into actual food. For the first time ever, Flint actually succeeds and his invention is a success. And Flint's timing could not be better, as he meets a pretty and intelligent weather girl who wants to be taken seriously, and even the Mayor of Swallow Falls decides to take Flint under his wings and have him make out food requests for everybody in the town. So Flint goes to work filling out food supplies for the town's new name of Chew and Swallow, as he brings any kind of food meal as specialized for the hungry consumers of the island. The food weather stimulates economic growth, solves the hunger of the island (as well as other parts of the world,) and there's so much to go around, the only proper place to put all the stuff that doesn't get eaten is behind an 'unbreakable' dam. But not everyone is happy with Flint's success. Flint's dad, Tim, is extremely worried about the safety of this invention, while local island celebrity 'Baby' Brent feels as though Flint is looking to usurp Brent as the most important person on the island. But everyone in Chew and Swallow may soon discover that having a machine that generates food may not be a completely good idea. Because the law of the Universe dictates that you can't get something for nothing, there will be a heavy price to pay for the continued abuse of Flint's machine, and it's not Flint doing it! With the food getting bigger and the machine accelerating out of control, Flint Lockwood must find the courage and the strength to take out his own invention and learn that the love and acceptance he was looking for his whole life doesn't come from a Greedy Mayor or a bunch of brown nosing acquaintances, it comes from a loving father, a loyal pet monkey, a beautiful/intelligent woman who loves Flint for being Flint, a cop who just wants to make sure the right things get done by the right people, and even Brent who discovers that helping others is more important than fame and glory, and that's what makes the quality of this movie so great! :D This movie is highly enjoyable with the comedy and all the other themes presented within the movie. I highly recommend it for the entire family for a great afternoon of cinematic entertainment! Enough said, true believers! ;)
