I'm glad that Blue Sky went back to the formula that made the first Ice Age into a franchise in the first place. A great movie for the whole family.

I rather enjoyed this film and it was the first film I have seen in 3D from what I remember. Although I found that my eyes strained a little the animation in 3D was amazing.

My favorite character with this franchise has always been the squirrel and he didn't disappoint. His jokes were the best, he fell in love with a sex red squirrel. The next has to be Simon Pegg's weasel known as Buck who was a swash-buckling pirate character. However the main weasel Sid i never really found funny, a pathetic character full of pathetic jokes.

So Sid finds three T-Rex eggs and manages to go off on the journey making new friends and managing to get his old friends almost eaten. Nevertheless it was one happy ending.

The Ice Age franchise, in my opinion at least, is a fun series, with some memorable main leads and a charming script that makes the, at times, uninspired moments in the films seem acceptable. The Ice Age characters; Manny, Sid, Diego and Scrat are likeable, and their presence is welcome on-screen.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown was a bit of a dissapointment for me. The film's plot felt a little bit flat, and the franchise's creativity for me, was starting to wane. It wasn't a bad film, but just not as orginial, nor as inventive as the first Ice Age film. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is definetly a happy step-up from the sequel, and is a fun, and inventive sequel. Whilst this film does feel like familar ground, and the film does have the problems the first two, Ice Age 3 is an enjoyable threequal, that easily surprasses the second, and has all the fun and imagination equalling the first installment.

The plot of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs sees Manny the Mammoth, and his companion Ellie, from the second film, having a family, and preparing for the arrival of their baby. Whilst Manny and Ellie try to work together to help their first born, Sid and Diego feel a bit left out, and the gang begin to go their seperate ways. Sid however wants a family of his own, and feel part of a family again. Sid discovers some dinosaur eggs in an icy cavern, and tries to raise his own family. With Sid creating a mess of the place with his dinosaur children, Sid is asked to give up and return the kids to their rightful home. It's not long before the REAL parent discovers Sid and her children, and Sid is whisked away to the land of the dinosaurs. Manny, Ellie, Digeo, the possums, and a newfound, hard-edged possum named: Buck, all team up on a daring resue mission to save Sid. Scrat the squirell rat is still seraching for his nut, and, whilst he's at it, runs into a foxy lady squirell rat along the way.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' plot is a bit uninspired, and at times, the characters' actions fall on the predictable side at times. However, Ice Age 3's story has a nice, sweet message of family, and manages to deliever some effective, cute moments that makes the storyline, despite its a bit thin, worth paying attention. Ice Age 3's plot also never runs out of energy and smart humor, and the characters this time around, are just as humorous as they have been before.

Visually, Ice Age 3 is just bueatiful. The strong, attractive and vibrant visual design of the jungle really makes Ice Age 3 easily the most creative out of the three. The jungle in the film looks exotic, colourful, and surprsingly inviting, and the more mysterious areas in the film such as the Chasm of Doom, all look great and striking. The character animation is remarkably fluent and smooth, and the slapstick, just like in the first two Ice Age films, is perfectly timed, and remincent of the classic Tex Avery, Chuck Jones characters of yore. Perhaps one of the most glaring weaknesses of Ice Age 3 is the new character: Buck. Buck is not a bad character, and Simon Pegg has proven he is a solid voiceover, and can deliever just as much character to a computer-generated character than his live action counterparts, the character of Buck himself is just a bit on the one-dimnesional side, and felt, kind of unesscary. Buck did kind of drag the film's pacing down, and was not as fundamentally intresting as the main character themselves.

Ice Age 3's storytelling, for the most part is sweet and nicely done, but there are ocassional moments where the film's plot felt a bit lost on where to go, and some jokes and scenes, such as the characters being sucked into a piranna, felt like bland filler. But the story in Ice Age 3 is charming, so it's a small knock.

Even though I was having fun with this film, I just couldn't help but feel that Ice Age 3 didn't really take any chances, and, at heart, felt like the same film once again. But, that's not a bad thing, because the charm and cleverness of Ice Age one is easily welcomed, and the characters are still as funny and as wiity in this, than the last time we saw them.

Even my complaints said, Ice Age 3 is still a fun, fresh film, that thankfully restores all the heart and wit of the first outing, and improves upon the creativity from Ice Age 2. The 3 star rating here is just generally because it still feels like the same film with a different look at heart, and the weaknesses of the first two are still there, but, if you have missed our favourite prehistoric heard like me, this is fun enough, and worth your time.
