Diary of the Dead is George Romeros take on the recent horrormentary style horror (in likes of The Last Broadcast, Blair Witch Project) which follows a group of film students during a zombie outbreak. What should be noted is that it feels strange to see Romero use things like the new "actors are aware of horror movie cliches"-cliche and things of that nature in his movie. But some things remain the same at least - because like his other zombie movies it very much reflects the age it's made in. This one obviously focuses on the power (and/or the lack of) which the internet holds. Like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead his movies always seem to have some, possibly unintentional, underlying social satire in them. They can always make you think about who the real zombies are. Is it the military following orders? Shoppers and consumers? In this one the social satire seems to lie in the constant blogging, the need for page views and spreading the truth through the internet. As such, this movie probably won't get the recognition it deserves right now, but in 30 years or so I think people might just look back and say "you know what, this was actually a really good zombie movie". That said, the movie also has some quite memorable death scenes and if you're a fan of zombie movies, you might want to check it out for them alone.

If you like horror and the living dead you will like this film.

I'm very picky when it comes to zombie films. Aside from Day of the Dead (remake) and Shaun of the Dead, there hasn't been, for me, a great zombie movie. Which is a shame becouse zombie are probobly my favorite movie monsters. Now, with this latist film by George A. Romero, by longing for a great zombie movie as been fufilled.
Now, I've heard many complain about this film being a documentery type film much like Cloverfield, but this is truly such a different movie in feel and ton to Cloverfield that it's rediculus that the two would even be compared. I thought the passing to this film was great, the charecters were introduced well and he can really see there differing personalitys coming out as the plot unfolds. My only real complaint was the endig, I felt it was a bit...well, it was like the wrap up to the film was coming and then they just dropped it and your like 'Where's the ending?'
But overall. Great film and may be the best Zombie film to date. Lots of gore and we're treated to the slow moving zombies :)

I admit, the writing and character development was a lil spotty... and they decided to use more tell then show to drive the film... but still, the movie had its own feel and trajectory that I liked... lots of good ghoul smashin... and the lil nods to Night really made me sqee tho... Most notably, the radio announcement clip that in now infamous from Night was one of the last things heard on the radio... as well as the farmhouse that seemed rather like the one in Night... Admittedly, out of the Dead series, this is the weakest link, but compared to alot of crap in the subgenre, this movie def stands on its own.

George A. Romero is responible for making the modern zombie movie look like it does. With 1968´s Night Of The Living Dead he set the milestone that havn´t been reached ever sence. And after one wonderful sequel: Dawn Of The Dead from 1978 and the less good but not bad Day Of The Dead (1985) and Land of The Dead (2005) he is back to the genre he is best at. Using the right now very poular "Home Video" filming style used in movies like "the Blair Witch Project" and the two recent Cloverfield and REC, the movie is very realistic with nice dialouge and great acting. You can realy tell that Romero knows his Zombie movies, compare his movie to other and you´ve got a masterpiece. the zombie movie has been dead for a while now and if it´s one man who could possibly bring it back to form it would be Romero, but i´m afraid this isn´t the movie. Even though it has great acting and a pretty nice script. The "Home camera" is not like in other movies using it. It´s not shaking as mutch andit allmost feels like a normal movie sometimes, and that´s where the movie fails, some scenes that would be good in normaly shot movies doesn´t realy work so good here, it gets a little... what´s the word? crony seems a little too mutch but let´s say that. Diary Of The Dead is a very good movie and possibly the best zombie movie since his last installment Land Of The Dead. And i´m serious when i say it´s probably better, it´s up there with Day Of The Dead (the original) as a fun, scary and not just a great zombie movie but a great movie.

This is the latest entry into the romero zombiefest. It follows a style used in cannibal holocaust and popularized by the blair witch and most recently used in cloverfield. It tells the story of a student director who while filming a horror film a zombie outbreak occurs. One thing I must say is that the camera movements are not so jittery like cloverfield. It shows how the student tries to document the outbreak. This is a pretty good movie that it worth a viewing. The violence and gore is there but its not so over the top like the horror movies that have been coming out now. The acting is well... its a zombie movie what do you expect. For a zombie movie this one is actually one of the better ones. If you can find it (yes its to the point where you have to actually look for this movie if you want to see it) its worth seeing.
