Daniel Day-Lewis does indeed give one **** performance. Very cool movie...I LOVE the ending...Pure, satisfying, evil.

Daniel Day-Lewis puts up a fantastic show in this truly wonderful battle of capitalism vs religion. I loved it all, from the beautiful cinematography of Robert Elswit to the haunting score of Jonny Greenwood and some vibes of Sergio Leone and Stanley Kubrick, all of this put together by Paul Thomas Anderson who is on his way of becoming an all time great. right now tied with No Country for Old Men as my favorite film of 07 and probably of the whole decade.
Masterpiece/100.

Set in the early 20th century, the film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview -- a charismatic and ruthless oil prospector, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see any and all competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. Over time, Plainview's gradual accumulation of wealth and power causes his true self to surface, and he begins to slowly alienate himself from everyone in his life.

In most of my reviews, I usually dont talk about how the performances by the actors or actresses are, because I feel that a movie is based upon plot and both the directors and screenwriters way of creating a story. I must say though that Daniel Day Lewis puts on an absoulutely spectacular performance as Daniel Plainview. We see two faces of this man through the 2 and a half hour film. First seeing the kinder and softer Daniel as he makes his way up through the world through all of his drilling, but once Paul shows him these areas where oil is huge, he changes. As greed and wealth take him over he becomes care less and mean, quickly. Daniel handles it with perfect precision as each moment we see him on screen is just fantastic to watch.

It makes me happy as a movie lover to see that there is a director like Paul Anderson who is willing to make a film about the big beginning of the oil production. Instead of creating a post 9/11 struggle movie about the fast moving prices of oil, he takes the time to create a movie in which shows major character and the start of America's largest needed supply. In the 21st century our whole economy is basically run by oil, we need gas for our cars and oil for our electricity. With the whole war going on and everything America is struggling to get these needs as much as we need them. So I thank Paul Anderson for showing me, a history buff, a story behind the scenes of the oil market in which today is a big thing. One thing I must point out which is very good in this movie was the score. The first 10 or so minutes of the movie are all quiet except for character and environment sounds. When there is a moment when score is used though, it gets to be very creepy, but sometimes used in great spots of the movie. Paul Anderson does a magnificent job behind the camera with a lot of very smooth and calm camera angles and shots. The visual style along with his directorial style set the movie perfectly. There Will Be Blood is fantastic in almost every way. At about 2 hours and 38 minutes, it is very long and in moments can be drawn out, but Daniel's performance and Paul Anderson's way to tell a story make the whole movie a must see.

I have just seen "There Will Be Blood in it's later UK release which was the 15th February 2008, and I managed to see it today with a friend, and "There Will Be Blood" was a movie in America, it's primary relase was getting a huge hype from from critics, moviegoers and the many film award ceremonies such as the Oscars in the previous year, I am happy to say, "There Will Be Blood" deserves every little bit of it's hype, and maybe, needs a little bit more.

"There Will Be Blood" tells the darkly told tale of Daniel Plainview (performed exceptionally by Daniel Day Lewis), who starts of as a small oil miner, and hits a huge oil strike whilst digging. Daniel Plainview signs a contract to become an oilman, and looks after an orphaned child who he calls: H.W. Plainview, to give an oilman family theme and image. When Daniel Plainview gets a tip off the Sunday family, for an oil goldmine nearby their ranch, him and his son moves over to Little Boston, California, to do more oil hunting. Then, when they find the biggest oil strike in Little Boston's town history, trouble persues, big trouble.

There Will Be Blood is excellent almost every second. Iat's story of how Daniel Plainview confronts his family, and gets confused with his emotion and strives for wealth and power, yet still thinks for his family. This shows beneath Daniel's hard exterior, he does have hart, but it is so subtly portrayed, you barely can feel it, and that is what makes There Will Be Blood a deadly fun experience.

There small minor problems with the film like, some of the plots can be a tad confusing and don't really coincide with some stories in the film all that well, and the ending is a tad trivial with the bowling alley between Daniel and Eli didn't really flow, but, with those small problems aside, There Will Be Blood is Paul Thomas Anderson's finest movie to date.
